Conversations with Clifton Moseley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clifton Moseley.

Clifton Moseley

Hi Clifton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Clifton Moseley, born and raised in “The Hill” District of Pittsburgh, PA.  I am the Founder and Co-Host of We Luvv Rare Grooves, an award nominated podcast show. We are thrilled to announce our 10-year anniversary celebrating a decade of captivating interviews with iconic musical artists and groups.

Since its’ inception, our podcast has been a beacon for music enthusiasts, providing an in-depth look into the lives and stories behind the rare grooves that have shaped our musical landscape. At a very young age, I started buying albums hence the show was developed from my genuine love of music.

We wanted to share songs from popular albums that were not considered “Hits”.  Over the years, we have highlighted the B side of vinyl records (originally 45s). These were songs on the reverse side of the record, and often not on the LP/album, that didn’t get much airplay, were less popular, not lead singles or chart toppers but ones that the world loves just the same. Our show is geared toward the edification of Artists, Songwriters, Musicians and Composers. We believe that the journey to creating timeless and classic music is just as important as the music itself!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We really didn’t have many challenges as it was organic in nature. We were first approach by Johnny Morris, the founder of RMC Studios on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. The studio had a 32-channel board with several large television screens.  He would stream on the RMC channel and then upload onto our YouTube channel.  In the beginning, it was DJ Devoux and I creating a playlist of music.  As we grew, our our initial Co-Host, Lisa Deveaux (jazz/soul recording artist and songwriter) and Gregory Sneed joined us and the rest is history.

One of our earliest broadcast memories is when famed L.A. radio personality Cliff Winston, formerly with KKBT The Beat in the 90s and subsequently program director and morning show host for KJLH for more than 2 decades, was a guest on our show.  He was a true jock and programmer who made an incredible contribution to the industry. He shared his wisdom and knowledge of the music industry and told us that we had something special.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While my current professional corporate background is in technology production sales, I began my early career in radio sales at WAMO, the iconic R&B and hip-hop radio station in Pittsburgh, PA (my hometown).  It is there that I learned a great deal about radio and music from the great program directors and radio personalities that I worked with through those early years.

Our show’s point of difference is that we provide a relatable atmosphere for the artist to be comfortable having very personal, in-depth conversations highlighting their career. We enjoy sharing music and often times we play music that our guests and audience may not have heard in a while – which triggers past memories.

Our show has been proud to feature iconic artists such as George Benson, Marcus Miller, The Whispers, ConFunkShun, Will Downing, Lou George, Jr. (Full Force), Terri Lyne Carrington, Maysa, Gerald Albright, the late Ramsey Lewis, Dionne Warwick, Phil Perry, Melba Moore, Karyn White, Avery Sunshine, Glenn Jones, Edward and Brian Holland (Holland Dozier Holland) and a host of others great artists and musicians.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
For the past 10 years, We Luvv Rare Grooves has become a trusted platform for music lovers to discover the hidden gems and untold tales of their favorite artists. The music podcast’s commitment to showcasing the rich history of rare grooves has made our show a go-to destination for those seeking a deeper understanding of the artists who have made significant contributions to the world of music. Music podcasts also provide an opportunity for obscure artists to get interviews and publicity.

Based upon the history of podcasts, which dates back to the 1980s – internet access and portable digital audio playback devices catching hold in late 2004, the convenience of digital format programming, consumer demand and growth of podcast shows – you can say that we are one of the early pioneers of music podcasting.

We plan to continue to share musical magic with our audience. In addition to myself, today our show includes our Co-Host of 9 years, Xiantoni Ari (singer, actress, dancer and musician), DJ Regg Jones (RJ Enterprises Mobile DJ Services) and Consultant Robert A. Brown (Know Your Soul: The Music of a Lifetime).
