Alexandria Hines

Hi Alexandria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
During the start of the pandemic, here I am, a 25-year-old working as a leasing consultant and experiencing a challenging period of unhappiness and loss as my mental health declined.

I yearned for more than a desk job, so I decided to explore my skills and talents. When the world transitioned virtually, I bit my bottom lip of curiosity and decided to enroll in a social media course when signing up for my summer semester classes.

Before this, I struggled to understand the true value of social media. My perception was skewed by its negative effects, causing me to dismiss it as a timewaster that overwhelmed me.

I perceived it more as a threat rather than an opportunity.

Even though I didn’t pass the course, it pushed me into a new realm where I can use my creativity to share my story and help other creators like myself who struggle with self-sabotage and accept the notion that our ideas and art we produce deserve to be showcased, not suppressed and silenced in our minds.

I lacked confidence in understanding marketing, let alone embarking on the journey of becoming a content creator. However, I didn’t want to deny myself the chance to leap and discover what my new reality could become. With my desire to help people and this newfound perspective, my path became clear, and I was ready to allow myself to step into this new world this year.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pursuing any dream is never easy. As a content creator & a social media coordinator who works at a mental health non-profit organization, I occasionally hear those tiny, monstrous voices from under the bed of my mind saying there’s no way this will work.

There are times when I find myself being my own worst enemy. However, during such moments, I deeply appreciate my community. Having a supportive system to lean on when facing dark moments is invaluable. Advocating for mental health has become a key message I aim to convey through my brand.

I cannot prevent problems from arising in my life. Instead of letting them defeat me, I remind myself that there’s a lesson in every situation. Above all, these challenging moments are preparing me for greatness and guiding me toward a better version of myself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a content creator who uses my platform to inspire others to overcome self-sabotaging behavior, elevate their mindset, and stress the importance of mental health.

What I’m most proud of is helping to host a “Thanksgiving Giveaway” drive. We donated essential ingredients and turkeys to those in our community who couldn’t afford to give their family a Thanksgiving meal.

Though this may appear as a small act, it inspired me to gain a deeper understanding of the mental health stigma that keeps our community and our world confined to this isolated viewpoint.

I had never discussed mental health before, thinking that nobody could comprehend my struggles. However, witnessing the hard work my team and I put in daily inspired me to reflect on my challenges, including depression.

I felt a divine calling to share my experiences, use them as a creative outlet, and connect with my community. All while educating and spreading awareness about mental health.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice to those just starting is to simply begin! Even if a million people are already doing it, remember, you are unique because there’s only one YOU.

Start by writing down the steps and resources you need to achieve your dreams. This could involve searching for internships, networking, taking classes, or completing certifications. Most importantly, SHOW UP AND CREATE.

There’s a quote from Martin Meadows in his book, “365 Days With Self-Discipline: 365 Life-Altering Thoughts on Self-Control, Mental Resilience, and Success,” that says, “Every successful person you see now started where we are.”

I always remind myself of this: no one truly knows what they’re doing when they start out. Yet, by applying consistent effort and time, you’ll be proud of the progress you’ve made.
