Today we’d like to introduce you to Reynaldo Powell.
Hi Reynaldo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Style and fashion have been key elements to my existence as long as I can remember. I always wanted to look and dress the part starting from my days as a child. Surely, I credit my parents and grandparents for passing on this lifestyle because I just don’t recall it being any other way — it’s innate to my being. There has always been this sense of inner pride and confidence that would glow through a well-thought-out outfit.
I recall always having the eye to mix and balance colors creating some of the best ensembles, even as the youngest lad. I was so picky about what I wanted to wear; I convinced my parents to allow me to save my money over the summer leading into my fifth-grade school year — I was determined to save up so that I could purchase all of my back-to-school clothes. I pulled it off, and saving to purchase my own clothes was a thing from that very instance.
My desire to portray my style through the clothes I wear has never waned but only continued to broaden, strengthen, and evolve. I firmly believe one can easily embrace an unparalleled level of self-esteem and vibrance after draping his or her silhouette into an amazing ensemble for the day.
So, I have appreciated style and fashion all of my life — often participated in local fashion shows growing up and never slipped when donning an outfit. Fast forward, I licensed and started my personal [stylist] brand, “Style Power,” in 2017…exude the confidence of your style through the limitless exhibit of your fashion. I also started modeling on the professional stage in this same year.
My goal is to inspire others with what I do and how I present myself. Self-confidence goes a long way — internally for self-esteem and externally for building healthy relationships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t necessarily say the road has been completely smooth, but it hasn’t been that bumpy either. I would say timing has been a key element contributing to the successes and failures experienced as I pursue my goals in fashion. I probably could name the time spent as a military service member as an obstacle, but not necessarily a bad obstacle. I spent the first two decades of my adult life serving the U.S. Army — retired from active duty after serving 21 years, 3 months, and 18 days…but who’s counting (?), LOL.
These years were not years of doom and gloom, but obviously, quite a bit of my time was preoccupied during this span of my life. Though my style and appetite for fashion never waned, my time and focus were shared between family and my other love, music — as a musician. I have started to give keener focus to my developing career as a fashion/print model, [male] stylist, and brand ambassador. The frequencies for selection for each have steadily progressed and increased.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started my professional career as a Clinical/Research Laboratory Professional while serving in the Army. I changed to the Information Technology career field shortly after my military retirement — I’ve served as a Requirement Manager, a Cyber Professional, and currently serve as a Project Manager. My attention to detail, commitment to excellence, completing the task(s), and yielding the best product are a few of the traits that set me apart from others. This speaks to my “day job”. So, at night (day and night actually, LOL), I am an active Fashion Model, Brand Ambassador for Rock, Paper, Denim by Matthew Smith III (https://rockpaperdenimbyms3.com/), and Stylist. I am currently managed by Concrete Rose Talent Management (https://concreterosecf.com/).
I am known as a leader, but my calling card is being an active team player at every level and at every opportunity — every good or great accomplishment requires help, support, and input from the collective unit chasing the same goal.
I am most proud of and grateful for the near seamless transition from military to corporate and the continued successes accomplished in the roles of which I’ve served. I am extremely proud and humbled with being named “2023 Best Dressed Male Model / Male Model of the Year” by the Texas Trailblazer Awards (Texas Minority Fashion Week [Committee]).
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my wife and kids. My wife Linda and I have been married for 37 years. We have three beautiful daughters who all are adulting in their own rights, LOL. There is nothing that compares to the joy, when I can see them smile, win and accomplish their individual goals.
