Conversations with Rose Galvis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Galvis.

Rose Galvis

Hi Rose, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins in Cali, Colombia, where I started studying acting at the age of 8. It was there that I participated in my first movie and made several appearances on regional television. It always felt like I was playing, and I developed a love for portraying characters. When I entered university, I decided to pick up what I had left behind. I returned to acting classes, and with great fortune, everything started to unfold naturally. That’s where I landed my first job, and everything began to flow. I started to feel that it was a place where I wanted to be, channeling all my creative power into storytelling. I took part in nationally acclaimed series broadcasted in over 25 countries and featured in numerous commercials. Fueled by that dream and passion, I made my way to Los Angeles to continue growing and expanding my career internationally.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a remarkably intriguing journey filled with challenges that have propelled my personal and professional growth. The first, undoubtedly, was performing in English. Another hurdle was breaking the belief that a Latinx individual couldn’t take on significant roles in narratives unfolding here. Confronting that belief led me to portray the story of VERONICA in ‘THE MOTHERFUC)&^% WITH THE HAT.’ Another obstacle I acknowledge is carving a path in a market that was unfamiliar until then, gradually understanding and becoming a part of the industry. Auditioning and not losing hope is another challenge because, as actors, we are always open to rejection. However, when several NOs come one after another, it becomes a process that makes you doubt what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. If you don’t have the ability to grow from each of those rejections and find the light, you can find yourself in a dark moment for a while where you feel like you’re losing your sense of worth. All of this while maintaining an open, receptive attitude and striving to keep mental health at 100%—ha ha ha! So, yes, they have been substantial challenges, but looking back, I can confidently say that EVERYTHING has been worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My greatest passion is acting, but I find joy in writing and directing. I love theater, but at this moment in my life, I want to focus on making films, telling important stories, and creating special characters. I adore everything with a biographical touch, embracing strong and charismatic narratives, as well as the sweet stories that involve opening the heart in its fullest splendor. As you can see, I am a woman of contrasts, loving the broad spectrum of emotions that we, as humans, have the capacity to feel and express, and I believe that is evident in each of my performances.

I am very proud not to have given up in the process, to continue choosing and learning from my profession above all else. All of this, combined with my Colombian background, where flavor, good vibes, strength, passion, and love are fundamental parts of my existence, creates a unique blend that sets me apart from others.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I believe luck is nothing more than when talent and hard work intersect with opportunity. Every day, we are creating our own reality and experiences through our beliefs and decisions. We are the creators and co-creators of our human experience, so luck, I feel, is something we generate based on what we attract and manifest. This is something I am just starting to truly assimilate and learn because my perspective on luck and life has undergone significant changes in the past year. Looking back with this understanding, I can say that from a young age, I dedicated myself to my work without paying much attention to what others were doing. I was fortunate to attract people who supported me in moments when fear seemed to take over. So, when the moments of important auditions arrived, I could make the most of them in the best possible way.
