Today we’d like to introduce you to Nuodi A.
Hi Nuodi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been into drawing since I was a kid. Currently, I work as an animation story artist, and I studied animation at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. After spending some time working in the field of art in China, I felt the urge to broaden my horizons and add more experiences to my journey. That’s why I landed in LA. I’ve found a bunch of friends here who are as passionate about animation as I am, and it makes every day pretty thrilling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest, holding on to the childhood dream I love isn’t easy nowadays. Thankfully, my family is super supportive, and I consider myself lucky. Despite their backing, the journey involves constant efforts and, at times, facing skepticism and criticism from some people. I’ve been told I might not be cut out to be a story artist. Some even suggested opting for a more stable job, settling down, and taking care of the family. These words hurt, but I’ve realized that judging art lacks an absolute standard. That’s precisely why I believe the path to true happiness is bravely choosing what I love and overcoming challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work on some films as a freelancer. And the content of the works are uncertain. I am a generalist, and I am competent in storyboarding character design, and 2D animation. The job of the storyboard is to visualize the script of the cartoon so other members of the team can quickly see how the film’s story looks and can continue to optimize it. Character design is to design the appearance of animated characters, and 2D animation is to make these characters move in a 2D environment. I love the feeling of bringing life to characters.
Personally, I like to draw cute little animals, and I recently made a short film about cute puppies at school. I hope it can be done smoothly.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As an artist, I just feel that success is being able to create work that I love and brings joy to more people.
