Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Aseere.

Taylor Aseere

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Shattered Glass Film LLC (SGF) is a women-owned and led animation and previsualization studio based in Los Angeles, CA created by Taylor Aseere and Caitlin Schrader. The idea of Shattered Glass Film came to us during the Covid-19 lockdown. With the mandatory curfew in place in Los Angeles, we had a lot of time on our hands and an itch to be creative. We were living together during much of the pandemic, so we had a great opportunity to bounce ideas off of one another. Due to the world events going on, we were still hard at work at our remote day jobs and found ourselves streaming a LOT when we got off work. Like many others, we had begun noticing the increase in recycled material and the frequent retelling of old stories and third, fourth, and fifth sequels. Watching these trends made us realize that we feel a responsibility to make a difference in this industry we love.

As audience members, lovers of film and animation, and industry professionals, we wanted to create a place where storytelling is at the heart and soul of the company and animation is valued as an art form. Complicated and intricate artistic processes are not rushed to save time and cut costs. A place where leadership and executives are well-versed in art and where artists are heard and respected. So, with our combined years of industry experience, leadership qualities, and fresh ideas and perspectives, we took a leap of faith. Thus, Shattered Glass Film was born! We have created a studio whose mission is to explore and visually tell unique, untold, and unknown stories all while providing a fun, inspiring, and safe place to create. We are confident that we will be trailblazers in paving the way for future generations of female artists, filmmakers, and storytellers. So keep your eye out for Shattered Glass Film in the near future!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to a dream is rarely smooth, and we were no exception. Like many other studios, the 2023 writer’s strike and the Covid-19 pandemic made it very difficult to find clients and collaborators to work with. Additionally, the animation industry is very small. It is commonplace for big studios and production companies to outsource VFX work and animation to smaller studios, and when they find a company that boasts advertisements for well-known products, celebrity endorsement ads, and blockbuster films, they stick with them, which in turn can make it challenging to compete. Nevertheless, we refuse to acquiesce; our tenacity and perseverance have led us down quite a successful path in just a couple of years after the inception of SGF. We have multiple projects in the works and are confidently looking onward at a bright future in animation!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Shattered Glass Film specializes in previsualization, pre-production, and animation. We are a small studio, but our combined experience speaks for itself: Taylor is a standout previsualization artist and began her career working on major VFX film productions, while most of Caitlin’s experience comes from working in the video game sector of the industry. Both of us have expert knowledge of the animation pipeline and filmmaking process. Taylor is our Head of Visualization, and Caitlin is our Head of Animation. Check out our showreel on our website to see all of our work! Something that sets us apart from other studios is our unwavering love for the art of animation and real, palpable storytelling. Oftentimes in the modern animation industry, great stories are sacrificed with the intent of saving money or selling merchandise. This is everything that we are against; Shattered Glass Film is completely artist-led and is focused on the quality of the content and creating real, flawed characters and telling their beautiful stories.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Share, share, share! We are always looking for ways to get the word out about Shattered Glass Film. Email us at [email protected], check out our website, and follow us on social media. We will also be launching a Kickstarter this year to help take our animated short film to the finish line, and we are so grateful for any support! Follow our Instagram and TikTok for updates, releases, and information about the Kickstarter launch!
