Meet Nikki Bostwick of The Fullest in Laguna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Bostwick.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My background is in Yoga and Plant Based Foods. I studied Business in College, taught yoga and was interested in food as a form of medicine. I was so passionate about it and would spend my free time learning whatever I could through books, documentaries/movies, and other forms of media.

The more information I read, the more “right” I felt in my views, the more changes I would make in my personal diet and annoy the people around me with all the new information I learned and what they should do differently.

Eventually, I went so far down the rabbit hole of what I called “wellness” that It was robbing me of my livelihood without me even knowing it. The thing that I thought was my passion and what made me happy was also making me sick! The stress from going out to eat and trying not to offend anyone and if I was going to be able to find any food for myself, etc. etc. was worse than actually only eating healthy foods.

As I shifted my rigidity to my philosophy now which is “consistency over rigidity”, I started to feel better, open up more, lighten up and overall am so much happier.

As this was happening, I was also finding interests outside of just the normal definition of wellness (eating well, spirituality and moving) to what I believe is also wellness which is self-expression through the arts, music, and fashion.

I always have had an affinity for fashion but viewed it as a materialistic interest- regardless of what it is or can be, I found that when I shift my perspective on anything, I see the potential of what it could be and what I was really missing out on.

I wanted to create a platform that bridged the gap between wellness and contemporary culture, without giving up style, and really held high the experience of the reader. Rather than bombard them with meaningless advertisements, the reader will be able to enjoy the content and focus on the content we’ve carefully curated for them.

Through weekly digital digests, quarterly print magazine, an ecommerce shop, community events and pop up shops, we have created a platform in which we connect with our readers on all levels, and in all forms- to bring them a sense of community on and offline.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A start to any project, however big or small, involves many hurdles! If someone mentioned to me all the things that would happen, I would be too overwhelmed and intimidated to start. The beauty of all of it is I believe the world doesn’t give you what you can’t handle right away.

The systems and processes need to be in place in order to call in the abundance you want to bring into your life! So, for us, we started slow, with just the digital platform. And that was already hard because gaining readers is not easy!

There’s so much free information out there, why should someone consume yours?

Then the print magazine came along- and I asked myself the same question. There is so much free information out there, why should someone PAY for ours?

It all comes down to keeping your integrity- and your reader’s experience- at the highest standards possible. When I use this as a basis for my decisions, I know that what I’m bringing to the world is necessary and helpful, and it helps me continue moving forward and look past the setbacks along the way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Fullest – what should we know?
We are a digital and print publication that bridges the gap between wellness and contemporary culture.

What sets us apart is the fact that we only publish content along with a theme, rather than just pushing content out for contents sake. It’s intentional. It’s thought out. Quality vs quantity.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family- without my family, I wouldn’t have the courage to start my own business, let alone the confidence and strength to continue building it! Also, I work with an incredible team of talented, dedicated and passionate people who are my second family and deserve so much credit for the company they have helped build.
