Today we’d like to introduce you to Hefan Fan.
Hi Hefan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I’m Hefan. Go by Margo. I graduated from ArtCenter College of Design last year. Specialized in illustration and concept design.
I like traveling. When I was a kid, one of my dreams was to travel around the world. Not that kind of traveling that you go someplace and stay for just a few days, the “traveling” I mean was I can really have a life there maybe for a few months, maybe one or two years. So after I graduated from high school, I went to learn tattoos cause I heard some travel tattoo artists can be guested in different countries, so they can travel around during work. I think that’s pretty cool, and that’s a great way to enjoy life in a different culture.
So, after I graduated from college, I built a freelance company for myself to mainly take tattoo commissions. I love to collect my clients’ ideas and do design for them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first, it was hard because you don’t have that much people to know you, that would be a big investment to let people know about your art and to spread out yourself. It’s a long path to make people trust you that you can make a good design for them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do Illustration, design, and tattooing. And sometimes, when I have time, I would also do character design and concept design for fun since I’ve learned it for a long time, and I really enjoy it.
I think for now, I am known for doing tattoos and tattoo design because most of my clients come for me for a tattoo commission.
I am really proud of myself that I can do better communication with people after I build my own business because sometimes you have to clear what people really want and make them satisfied with your design, so it’s really important that you have a great and efficient way to communicate with people.
I think it’s my style and my design that set me apart from the others. Because every stroke of my own tattoo design was made by myself. I took the time to draw every design little by little.

I’m not only taking illustration design. Also, I am really interested in the concept and character design of the game industry, so if I get a chance, I would be really passionate about being part of a game.
