Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Glass.

Audrey Glass

Audrey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada where I studied Fashion Design then attended makeup school. I moved to California in 2012 and had a handmade bag company until 2016. After a much-needed career change, I decided to give microblading a try and absolutely fell in love with the art. My makeup background made for a natural the transition into PMU. I initially worked at a microblading studio in Vancouver, Canada for my first year in the industry, then relocated to Los Angeles where I opened my own studio in 2017. In the three years that I was in Los Angeles, I had the honor of working alongside amazing other artists, meeting incredible entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, and built an incredible clientele which includes many celebrities. As my lease ended during the pandemic, I decided to relocate to Orange County where I live to have a better life/work balance. I am beyond grateful for the relationships I have built with my clients and for all who make the drive to Orange County from either LA or San Diego, and for everyone who flies in from all over the country.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, I had the advantage of starting my microblading journey in the very early days and had little to no competition and a very high demand for the service. It made building a clientele fairly easy compared to someone who is only starting their career now. With that being said, it also means that not a lot of information was available for the service and that a lot of the learning process was trial and error. It was very stressful at first as making a mistake on someone’s face and figuring out on your own how to fix it is a very big deal. The customer service that comes with such a service is also very challenging. I have had to learn to be very patient, excel in communication and also set up boundaries. With a high-demand service came a lot of work, which also brought burnout. Covid forced to me take a step back, relax, and reassess my priorities, which was a blessing in disguise. More recently, I would say that the ever-changing algorithm of social media makes it hard to put my work out there for the world to see.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a microblading artist who specializes in natural-looking eyebrows and freckle tattooing. Microblading is a technique of cosmetic tattooing where small incisions are made in the skin with a small blade (made of very small needles) and pigments to create hair stroke-like patterns throughout the brows. It can create density, definition, completion to a partial eyebrow and in many cases, full eyebrows for clients who have none. I am mainly known for my fluffy eyebrows, which look natural and youthful. This career has given me such a sense of purpose, and nothing makes me happier than seeing the smile on a client’s face after they see themselves with eyebrows for the first time since their chemotherapy treatments or since losing their brows to alopecia. The sense of confidence it brings them is what makes me the most proud of what I do.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was 12, we got the biggest ice storm in history and everything was shut down for weeks. No school, no work, no power. My parents had a wood fireplace, and family and friends stayed at our house. We made food on the fireplace, played board games and it turned into a huge sleepover. People were ice skating on the streets. The community really came together, and I will never forget it.

On a different note, my painting and sewing classes were my favorites, and I am so grateful that my parents always put my love for arts above any other interest of mine.
