As the founder of Maryam Taba Interiors and MT Interiors, specializing in art curation and interior design, my journey is not just about my passion for design but also about helping clients discover the transformative power of modern and contemporary art. From entry-level to high-end pieces, my experience offers a unique blend of artistic elegance and cultural depth tailored to each client’s needs.
My formal journey in the design world began when I moved to San Diego, where I pursued a BA in Interior Design and Fine Arts at San Diego State University, graduating in 2014. I then embarked on a career as an interior designer in San Diego, honing my skills and crafting spaces that blend functionality with artistic expression.
I moved to Los Angeles to expand my expertise, where I founded Maryam Taba Interiors. My focus shifted towards custom furniture and art consultation and advising, driven by my belief that art is integral to shaping the ambiance and character of a space. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with industry professionals and curated furniture and art for luxury hospitality and residential projects.
What sets my work apart is the emphasis on bespoke solutions. I collaborate with local artists, creating unique pieces and designing custom furniture tailored to each project’s needs. My approach is rooted in a profound appreciation for quality craftsmanship and a commitment to delivering exceptional results.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I am deeply passionate about promoting artists, from all over the world. I believe in the power of art and collectibles to imbue spaces with soul and character, serving as a visual language that transcends words. As they say, “Art is a language without words,” and I find joy in translating that language into captivating, meaningful designs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating the intricate world of art curation and interior design presents its unique challenges and rewards. My path from a budding designer to a sought-after consultant in this niche has been a journey of discovery for me and my clients, who seek to infuse their spaces with unique artistic narratives and cultural richness.
One of the significant challenges was the transition from San Diego to Los Angeles. Moving to a larger and more dynamic design market brought a new set of complexities and competition. Establishing a foothold in the LA design scene required dedication, networking, and proving the unique value I bring to each project.
Additionally, the design industry’s ever-evolving nature posed its own challenges. Staying abreast of the latest trends, materials, and technologies while maintaining a distinctive and timeless design aesthetic demanded continuous learning and adaptability.
Building a brand and business from the ground up inevitably comes with its share of hurdles. From securing initial clients to managing the operational aspects of a design firm, each step required diligence and perseverance. Overcoming these challenges has strengthened my business acumen and reinforced my passion for creating meaningful and impactful designs.
