Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiola Fuentes.
Hi Fabiola, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in mid-city Los Angeles. Thinking back I would say my passion for art started at nine years old. My mom would take me and my brothers to her job at Venice Beach. We were surrounded by street art and artists all the time — I was inspired by a photographer who showed me and my brother the basics of photography. It was then that I fell in love with the camera. But we couldn’t afford a good camera at the time, so my mom would buy me disposable cameras to take photos of my friends and family. Eventually, I bought myself a little digital camera. I would always be the one snapping shots of everyone. It wasn’t until recently that I realized I really do enjoy capturing special moments and all the moments in between.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge for me was getting started and actually putting myself out there. It took me years to finally realize who I want to be known as, and here I am. It’s been three years since I started my photography career, and I am enjoying every minute of it. If I can go back in time I would tell my little self to pursue photography.
The biggest struggle for me is balancing family, friends, wife life, and being a momma while juggling a 9-5.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer- I specialize in weddings, family portraits, and self-portraits. I am proud of every wedding or photoshoot I’ve done. Whether big or small, they are an accomplishment within itself. The feeling I get from my clients is so rewarding; it keeps me going.
What sets me apart is my creative eye for composition. Very few people know this about me, but I am a huge fan of Frida Kahlo and her art.
Her art has inspired my photography, my colors, and the way I pose my clients at times, especially during branding shoots.
