Rising Stars: Meet Kirsten Izer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Izer.

Kirsten Izer

Hi Kirsten, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been a singer-songwriter ever since I walked into the Apple store in the Freehold Raceway Mall in New Jersey and stumbled upon Garageband. Now I’m based in Los Angeles; I just celebrated the release of my new song and video, “No One’s Invited,” and I have lots of new music and shows geared up for 2024.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road, ha! I think that’s just inherently how it’s going to go if you are any kind of creative person. That being said though, I am lucky in the sense that I’ve always had a job while pursuing music, which means that I’ve been able to support myself and learn about marketing while still being able to fuel my passion for making music. Double lucky because my non-musician jobs are always still music-related, so I’m happy to just be around it all the time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter who specializes, hopefully, in telling stories that many can relate to, but in my own unique way. I hope to one day be known for my lyrics and how they make people feel. I’m so proud of myself for actively choosing to put myself out there every day, even when I sometimes feel fear of being so vulnerable. I’m proud of myself for giving it my all and working through it even on the days when I don’t feel like it. I have a lot of songs that I’m proud of, and I believe they really will resonate with people.

I think my mix of indie and pop techniques set me apart from other artists. My genre is definitely not black and white—I take aspects I like from all different genres and make whatever feels good to me. Hopefully, my stories and the way I tell them also set me apart.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was the lead singer in a ska band once.
