Today we’d like to introduce you to Peggy White.
Hi Peggy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Peggy White. Thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey—one that’s been marked by heartache, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of purpose.
For over three decades, I poured my heart and soul into corporate America. Early mornings turned into late nights; I gave my all—leading, mentoring, and striving for excellence. But despite my tireless efforts, I found myself in a constant struggle, feeling invisible, overlooked, and underappreciated. The companies I loved didn’t seem to reciprocate that love. At each company, I worked. I devoted my time, talent, and treasure. I seemingly would rise to the occasion only to be overlooked for top jobs and leadership roles. I came to the realization—the organization and the folks in the C-suite didn’t really care about me and most times, didn’t even know I existed.
What do you do when the place you’ve devoted your life to doesn’t love you back? The pain of that realization led me to a crossroads in December of 2021. With a heavy heart, I decided to step off the corporate hamster wheel to pursue entrepreneurship and to invest in my nonprofit organization full-time. But let me tell you, the journey into entrepreneurship was far from smooth—it was a tumultuous ride through fears of inadequacy and the comfort of a steady paycheck. I clung to the thought of that corporate security blanket, I thought maybe leaving my corporate job was a mistake. For a moment, I was scared to let go.
But a deeper desire burned within me—a desire to live in God’s purpose for my life.
I wanted to serve others especially women who looked like me. So, I founded OMG Women Outreaching Women (OMG W.O.W.), and in 2020 it was designated as a 501c3. Its mission is to restore the sense of agency of Black women by bridging the divide in equity and wealth through education, mentorship, and empowerment. Agency allows you to choose the direction that your life will take, help you to influence others to affect changes in your life, and work with others to change lives.
I find solace in the love of my life, Charles White, and take pride in being a mother to four incredible sons and a grandmother to nine. My journey, fueled by determination, corporate accomplishments, and a delicate balance of faith, family, and career, brings me to tears when I reflect on the transformation.
Join me in fueling powerful breakthroughs. Dreams really do come true, and through the tears, the struggles, and the triumphs, I’ve learned that the most meaningful breakthroughs are born from the deepest places of the heart.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My vision is to see a world where the agency of Black women has been restored, and our communities have shifted from surviving to thriving, promoting a just and prosperous world for all. I envision a reality where Black women and black communities are economically sound and have equal and equitable access to the generation of wealth that is found in the benefit and advancement of society to include general advancement of the greater economy with respect to factors like education, resource availability, and living standards. What OMG W.O.W. does, with the help of the community, is to narrow the disparities of Black women by fostering an equitable environment of education and mentorship programs, ensuring that they have an impartial distribution of resources that address their economic inequity.
The road to success will be challenging. Some of the obstacles have been funding our operations and building our internal programs. I believe that by the grace of God, we will accomplish what we have set out to do, which is to build an organization that will provide Black women with the opportunity to live a prosperous life by providing them with the education, mentorship, and resources to succeed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
