Meet Brian Anderson of Arctic Frost Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Anderson.

Brian Anderson

Hi Brian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like a wandering merchant, I do not call one place home. To me, there is no physical structure that defines the life and blood spent and spilled to structure my true belonging. Being born the only male and youngest child to a father with a 28-year Naval career and a Christian Matriarchal family will teach you that. This type of environment will unapologetically inspire you to empathize with the pain of the misfortuned, even when you are personally experiencing your own psychological dilemmas.

With an eventful upbringing I found solace in researching about historical pattern like human behavior. I am now cultivating said research into his own metaphysical form to elaborate more on these dangers mentioned. I found through my personal experiences and research that there was always an underlying reason for people’s actions: a subconscious response to personal rejection groomed by an environmental influence. Through this, I began answering the questions of my past, discovered a hereditary relation to secret societies, and my ancestral family’s abnormal obsession with the underlying malevolence of human history and its doomed fate to repeat itself due to mass hysteria. Through this process, it has allowed me to form my artistic practice to revolve around critiquing our nomophobic society on their occult-like addiction towards unnecessary validation found on their social devices.

My intention with this collection is to identify to my viewers how influential systems utilize modern-age devices to groom society into their own selfish bidding. It is important to rely on your authentic self and not the character you create to dismiss societal expectations and rejection. My only goal is to prompt this unique form of self-reflection by presenting an animated character who screams at his viewer how humans unconsciously groom themselves with modern devices like social media. This collection attempts to achieve this with animated interviews with authoritative experts on my topics, experimental short films showcasing the dangers discussed, and multi-media sculptures housing all of this content encased in aesthetically archaic and festering research. With these assets, I am able to showcase how these interactions are destroying more than just the simple need to feel accepted in reality. Humans should love themselves so they can love others or else experience the symptoms of the cycle of doom that has cursed human history.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has had its ups and downs. Overall, I find sharing the success of hard work and a tenacious attitude to be the best takeaway. This profession can be brutal; however, I have had the wonderful opportunity to formulate friendships amongst the grad cohort here at San Jose State University. These amazing people are a part of what makes my artistic creations worth it. Collaborate, Collaborate, Collaborate; this will assist in pushing you forward into your next steps as artists. Remind yourself you are not dead, and create!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe “Risk-Taking” is the catch-all in this profession. Any design or art will require the creator to challenge themselves in ways they could never fathom. In my case, I started my freelance business at 19. I was already attending my undergraduate education and working a retail job full time. Trying to find any moment to sleep or for myself became nearly non-existent as I needed a job to pay my bills, and now my new responsibility of managing a business.

However, within the first three months of activation, Arctic Frost Design (originally Polar X Design) was able to host an art show in downtown Burlington Vermont with an American national team of underground artists in 2017.

Risk is only a risk if you don’t plan for the consequences. In my situation, I ensured my backup plans had backup plans so I wouldn’t lose face or any money.
