Today we’d like to introduce you to Simon Jay.
Simon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a music producer and songwriter based in LA. I am part of a production duo named Chapters, comprising of myself and Luke Shrestha. We have been fortunate enough to work with artists throughout all facets of the music industry, including Olivia Rodrigo, Tayler Holder, Faime, Gabbie Hanna, Rachel Levin, Caroline Jones, and more. Collectively, our artists have accumulated over 800 million Spotify streams, and worldwide recognition, including Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, Telly Awards, and Hollywood Music In Media Awards. On the film/TV side, we have worked on shows such as Only Murders In The Building, This Is Us, The Grammy Awards, The Emmy Awards, and The Kennedy Center Honors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road up until now has been a slow and steady build. I am always focused on taking the time to build a strong foundation and expanding from there. A big step was deciding to serve as executive producer to the artists we work with. EPs not only focus on the music but the overall brand and sound as well. Switching between the business side of the industry and the music side has been a big challenge, but it’s been fascinating to see how one side informs the other and how all parts of artist development are so crucial, even for artists that you would say are already “developed.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The idea behind Chapters is to take artists “from bedroom to stadium.” It’s so crucial to recognize that even the smallest wins can be leveraged into MASSIVE career advancements, and part of being an executive producer is learning the landscape of the industry and how the artist fits into it. Selecting artists we work with as a team is probably the most important piece of the puzzle. Artists that we gravitate towards are those who have a unique story to tell and tell them in a unique way.
What are your plans for the future?
The plan is to continue to develop artists on a bigger scale. As we accumulate more and more resources, we will continue to leverage the platforms that the public consumes content on to develop our artist’s fanbase and cast a wider net. Especially our work in Film/TV has really added a lot of fuel to the fire as far as getting artists recognition. Even a small placement in a TV show or commercial can lead to more fans, whether it be on social media or ticket sales in concerts.
