Check Out Isabel Nguyen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Nguyen.

Isabel Nguyen

Hi Isabel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the world of aesthetics as a Physician Assistant (PA) is a unique story that began with a personal experience that ignited my passion for medicine. My path took me from a challenging start in addiction medicine to the vibrant world of aesthetics.

My interest in medicine was catalyzed by a deeply personal experience. My brother’s battle with addiction was a painful and eye-opening chapter in my life. Witnessing his struggle and the impact it had on our family fueled my desire to make a difference in healthcare. I realized that I wanted to be part of a profession that could help individuals like my brother regains their health, confidence, and more importantly, their life.

After completing my PA program at Duke University, the #1 PA program in the nation, I began my career in a challenging but rewarding environment – an inpatient chemical dependency unit. While the work was emotionally taxing, it provided valuable insights into the complexities of healthcare and the importance of compassionate patient care. I learned to approach patients with empathy and understanding, qualities that would prove invaluable in my future endeavors. Despite the fulfillment I found in the detox unit, I started to feel a sense of burnout after a year. Seeking a change, I transitioned to dermatology and then ultimately aesthetics. This shift allowed me to explore a different facet of medicine and provided me with a new perspective on the impact of skin health on a person’s self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being. Today, as an aesthetics Physician Assistant, I have the privilege of assisting individuals in achieving their aesthetic aspirations, and I find immense satisfaction in witnessing the transformational impact of my work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Witnessing my brother’s battle with addiction was emotionally challenging and took a toll on my family and I. Coping with the emotional distress while pursuing my medical education and career required resilience and determination that pushed me beyond limits that I had never imagined. Dealing with the weight of my brother’s addiction, coupled with the intensity of working in an inpatient detox unit, led to burnout and made me question if medicine was the right profession for me; I realized that while my journey started with my personal motivation working in addiction medicine, I needed to make a change to maintain my own well-being. Transitioning from addiction medicine to aesthetics, while seemingly disparate, allowed me to use my skills to still address the emotional and psychological aspects of one’s well-being by addressing their physical health and appearance. Addiction often takes a toll on both physical and mental health. In aesthetics, I can approach patients with a holistic perspective, understanding that their concerns about appearance are often intertwined with their emotional well-being.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in nonsurgical treatments and minimally invasive procedures aimed at enhancing my patient’s physical appearance. This encompasses a wide range of treatments, including neurotoxin injections, dermal fillers, laser treatments, Morpheus, Coolsculpting, and other cosmetic enhancements designed to improve my patient’s appearance and boost their confidence. I focus on not only cosmetic concerns but also the maintenance of healthy and radiant skin, using a comprehensive approach that includes skincare recommendations and anti-aging treatments. I tailor my services to meet the unique needs and aesthetic goals of each patient, ensuring a personalized experience and natural outcomes.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I am an Orange County native, so moving one hour north to LA doesn’t seem like much of a move but boy, is it different! I love that Los Angeles never has a shortage of events and concerts going on and also has so many great dining options, which is very important for a foodie like me. I also love the diversity throughout the city and exploring new neighborhoods, all with their own unique flare. But of course, the traffic getting to and from each area is a nuisance–you will definitely catch me avoiding crossing the 405 as much as possible (LA made me a Westside girlie).
