Life & Work with Alyssa Volker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Volker.

Alyssa Volker

Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I was a child, I have always been a creative & business savvy soul. My first creative business endeavor started when I was 10 years old when I decided to sell customized “puffles” to my 5th-grade classmates (which were basically colored cotton balls with googly eyes on them). I created the demand by only allowing my closest friends to get the first access and then started taking customized orders from more & more classmates. I remember making $300 from this venture (which when you’re ten years old is a lot of money!) I fell in love with the process of allowing business to intersect with your creative passions. As I got older in the digital age, I also started to fall in love with all things digital from creating my own websites, photography, graphic design, and customizing my own Tumblr page, Facebook, & Instagram which later launched. I never had a traditional job where I was employed by someone else in fact I taught myself at an early age to make money through my passions, whether it be through photography, freelance graphic design & websites, etc.

Then, I went off to study Computer Science for college and ended up working as a Corporate Consultant for the beginning of my career. I went the full-time route as it’s what was engrained into my as the next step after college & even though my full-time job taught me what it would be like to be an entrepreneur in the corporate world, I knew my soul calling was to be a full-time entrepreneur. I was creatively unfulfilled in my full-time work, so I started posting organically to TikTok in 2020 as a creative outlet. This is when TikTok was experiencing a large surge with the pandemic & I started to get opportunities that I would’ve dreamed about simply by putting myself out there as my authentic self. Brands, businesses & individuals of all sizes were reaching out to me to help them create and/or consult their TikTok accounts since it was a new platform to many at the time. Before I knew it, I had built a full-blown business that scaled to 6-figures in less than 2 years on top of my full-time job. I have worked with brands like OLIPOP, Marshalls, Kitsch, vitruvi, Grown Alchemist, & more! I am so grateful to work alongside such incredible brands that allowed me to come back to myself in the business world. I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur for almost a year now & realized that the reason I felt unfulfilled in my job prior to this is because my dream job needed to be created by me. Now, I want to help spread the word to others that they can do the same for themselves!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I like to think of Entrepreneurship as a constant mirror reflecting back on the areas in which I need to release limiting beliefs, face fears, and constantly embrace growth. There have been many trials and errors I’ve learned in business whether it be working with projects that weren’t in alignment, overextending myself, putting too much on my plate, not outsourcing, and so many other lessons for another day. I’ve learned to not fear failure but to welcome it because it’s a given that you will mess up, but it’s how you fail forward that sets you apart from the rest. Also, I personally faced two major life losses at the beginning of my entrepreneurship journey which added another layer of complexity to the process. However, it also was the biggest motivator to do something fulfilling and meaningful with my time on this Earth because the next day is not guaranteed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a content creator and consultant for brands/businesses across multiple industries while also managing my own personal brand online. I specialize in short-form video content (IG Reels, TikTok, & YT Shorts), and my strategy consists of high-quality quality content that converts. I believe my technical background from Computer Science and Corporate Consulting helps with the strategy & systems that go into creating a viral piece of content while utilizing my creative & design eye from my digital freelance background in photography & digital design. The work I am most proud of is for my clients Marshalls, OLIPOP, & Kitsch. The most rewarding part about this role is to not only bring conversions & growth to my clients but also how the long-term relationship is established over time. I believe what sets me apart from other content creators & consultants is I will always go the extra mile for any concept and client relationship I work with.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve come across so many amazing people in this space who have helped with my business growth that it would be hard to narrow it down. However, I credit a lot of my success to my Dad who recently passed away and was an Entrepreneur himself on top of being a physician. Although my business is entirely self-made on my own efforts, my Dad was my biggest supporter and was the perfect role model on what it means to be a multi-faceted human. He taught me it’s okay to want more for yourself and push yourself to new heights in all that you do while being grateful for every blessing that has come into your reality thus far.
