Rising Stars: Meet Becky Feldman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Feldman.

Becky Feldman

Hi Becky, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from New Jersey and studied at Emerson College in Boston. I moved out to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue a career in entertainment and have been here ever since!

Right now, I perform a solo show called “Tight: A Night of Painfully Sexy Stories” and my next performance is September 27th (Wednesday) at 8 pm at the Pack Theater.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh gosh no. And it still isn’t a smooth road, which I think any creative or entrepreneurial person can attest to. (Especially now in the midst of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike.) There is so much out of your control in this industry, which of course has its inherent struggles. However, the hardest struggles are usually the internal ones — dealing with insecurity, anxiety, and feelings that I’m not good enough or don’t deserve to be here. I’m coming to learn that changing your attitude about yourself in the world is a lot more doable than hoping for the approval of the rest of the world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a comedy writer, performer, and podcaster. I do a lot of improv and have written and directed sketch comedy shows at the UCB Theatre. I also do storytelling and have a solo show called “Tight: A Night of Painfully Sexy Stories” where I get vulnerable about my sex life. On a sort of sex-related note, I also host a podcast called “Too Stupid to Live” that reviews romance novels $5 and under. My TV appearances include “Broad City”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” I have also been a staff writer on two animated shows.

I love the challenge of getting vulnerable in writing and performing — I think it allows you to share a perspective that doesn’t often get shared, especially when it comes to solo work. It’s been delightful being able to shine a light on more sensitive subjects like pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction whenever I perform “Tight”.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Well, the first thing that popped into my head is that during Covid, I learned that I had ADHD my entire life, which I know has been happening with a lot of adults, especially women. It’s an interesting phenomenon. But I think it shows the importance of taking care of your mental health and being there for others who may be struggling, in whatever way they need.
