Meet Brit Barron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brit Barron.

Brit Barron

Hi Brit, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Both my life and career started in the Evangelical megachurch world. I spent a lot of time trying to fit neatly inside the boundaries of the church and its narrow views of spirituality and change. However, all that changed when I met a girl named Sami, fell in love, and chose to leave behind those narrow boundaries in favor of a fuller and more vibrant life. That experience led me on a path to find all the places where small ideas and views could be expanded. I began speaking all around the country on topics of race, gender, sexuality, and spirituality. I began offering cooperative workshops on how to have difficult conversations, how to tell better stories, and how everyone is able to find their own confident communication.

In my first book, Worth It, I tell my story in an attempt to inspire all of us to overcome our own fears–the kinds of fears that keep us from evolving beyond the narratives that have been handed to us by others. In my work with companies and in every keynote I give, I consider it an honor to be able to take what I have learned in crossing boundaries and blowing past borders and using that to equip others to do the same. Whether it’s navigating conflict, learning to tell better stories, or diving into the depth of our social issues, my work exists to be a guide on that journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have come to believe that any journey worth taking is not easy. Being a pastor who lost my job after coming out was an obstacle of both professional and personal implications. Finding my way in the corporate world, navigating difficult topics is always ripe with new obstacles. And maintaining confidence in my own communication style while teaching others to do the same is probably my most beloved struggle. And after being in a “smooth road” and this windy one, I would choose the struggles and obstacles a million times over.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
