Meet Rick Norris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Norris.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I entered the accounting industry in 1979 after graduating from UCLA. Earning my Certified Public Accountant license in 1982, I then graduated from Southwestern School of Law in 1985.

My focus initially centered as a business manager for artists in the entertainment industry. In 1992, I launched my own accounting firm focusing not only on the entertainment industry, but small businesses. Our company mission is to bring business management-style personal service, (usually only offered to entertainers), to small and mid-sized business owners. Likewise, we bring sound business concepts and strategic planning services (normally only seen by business owners) to entertainment industry companies.

Today, small businesses and aspiring business owners come to us on a weekly basis looking for a firm who guides them through the mire of small business ownership and personal finances. This is done sometimes as outside consultants or as an outside CFO and accounting department. Our services include bookkeeping, accounting, business consulting, tax services and strategic planning.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The rise since 1992 had been a slow and gradual one because of my commitment to raising our four children with my wife, who is in Academia. Around 2007 when the last of our children grew older, I was able to focus on growing the firm. However, the Great Recession arrived affecting many of our clients. Yet, instead of reducing our budget and staff, we increased it. We entered the area of social networking and the internet while other CPA firms were struggling under their oversized overheads laying off their receptionists and staff accountants. The result is that we are now on Google’s page one when a person searches using most relevant search terms and in the top five listings in the most popular of searches. Our strategy had catapulted our firm above firms ten times large than us. We are still growing with client prospects contacting us several times a week.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

We fill the role as business consultants, outside CFO and an outside accounting department for small and midsize businesses.

What were you like growing up?
I have been a musician since I was six years old. I was influenced by my father, Bobby Norris who was a Rockabilly singer for Capitol Records during the 1950s. He is in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

This outgoing personality affected our children in one way or another.

Today, I write and perform music with my musical family, under the band name, “Prism of Rhythm”. Our first song released, “Louisiana” is on iTunes, Amazon Music and most other major music distribution channels. Our next release, “Francisco” will be released in November 2017.

My personality has also fueled our family podcast show, “Rambling Business” which can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud and dozens of podcast networks.
