Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruthie Odom.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly, what got me started in spiritual work is Alcoholics Anonymous. After my parent’s divorce, I watched my dad go through his own spiritual transformation that began in a small 7 am early bird meeting in South Georgia. At 10 years old, he had me sitting beside him listening to epic journeys of recovery. Men and women would go around in a circle sharing stories about their addictions to drugs and alcohol and emotional breaking points. As a little kid, I struggled to make sense of it, but I noticed a common thread between all of these people.
Loss. There was so much pain and loss.
People lost friends and family or livelihood, but they also lost of any real sense of self. It was the loss of the intangible things that intrigued me. The loss of will, hope, or love in life. It felt like the men and women in the room had lost contact with the soul of who they were and replaced it with drugs and alcohol. And there they were struggling to find themselves again.
If you are unfamiliar with the 12-step program, understand that it is a process of redemption that requires a relationship with a higher power.
Watching several full-grown men relinquish themselves to God and find solace and sobriety was a catalyst to my spiritual exploration. Why is it that God, or a higher power, was needed for healing and recovery?
I studied many world religions, took many psychedelics, studied yoga, had a therapist, traveled the world, immersed myself in the theater arts- all to answer this question and understand a human being’s connection to divinity.
I learned many great things, but I struggled to embody what I learned.
Something I see a lot of is the “floating” of spiritual concepts. Perhaps we are in therapy, readings books, or finding great quotes on Instagram, and think to ourselves “That is an amazing concept, but how do I ground it? How do I live this principle or teaching in my life?” I knew there was something more to this world, but I had no idea how to access it. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not reach this Higher Power in a meaningful way that actually impacted my life.
So I suffered. I turned to drugs and alcohol. My mental world spiraled. I hit a breaking point. And that’s when I found the healing session called Life Activation.
The Life Activation catalyzed a forward momentum of clarity that I had been seeking for years. My mind calmed down. The never-ending stream of anxiety and negative thoughts stopped. I could finally breath… And from there I was able to build a life that was grounded in joy.
Through my work with the Modern Mystery School, I have experienced unbelievable amounts of healing. I understand the mechanics of the universe in such an intimate way, and I apply them to all aspects of my life. That higher power was never something simply outside of me but something that I could access and harness within. The results are a life of miracles.
And now, I have the honor of offering this path, these teachings and healings, to anyone around me. It is an awesome feeling to heal your own life, but it is indescribable to support others in healing theirs. Some of my clients have permanently healed their anxiety, built better relationships, started working in an industry that they truly love, gained clarity on their purpose, healed health issues, and just feel better on a daily basis overall- more confident and empowered.
I love being a guide in the Modern Mystery School because these techniques really work. And as a guide, I get to serve people in architecting a life of healing and marvels for themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a spiritual guide is not easy. There isn’t a shared understanding of what a spiritual guide actually is or why you would need one. Most people’s eyes sort of gloss over the moment you tell them your job title… Like, “Oh, that’s nice…” The moment I mention it, people either think I teach yoga or teach the bible. So I often have to navigate these stereotypes to show that what I offer is different.
This comes up against another challenge. People have been really burned by spirituality. Either their childhood religion let them down, or God let them down, or some spiritual practice just didn’t quite hit the mark. So when I say, “Hey, I have this really awesome tool that works!” People can be a little skeptical. I get it. I was once the skeptical person too. No one wants to be hurt or taken advantage of. And let’s face it, spiritual healers have had a bad wrap, so why would I be any different?
What makes me different is the epic amount of care and compassion I have for my clients, combined with the power of lineage. The lineage I work with really works regardless of what you believe. It’s not based in faith, it’s a tool that works if you work it. And my job is not to make you believe anything, my job is to make you aware that there is another way.
So why would you need a spiritual guide?
Because most of us have forgotten that we are divine beings capable of living a miraculous life, and we need to be reminded. We also need to be reminded of how to live our greatness and apply our gifts in a practical way. Being spiritual isn’t about escaping reality; it’s about getting into the ring of life and seeing what you are made of. It is about training to be the best version of yourself- knowing that that version rests in knowing yourself as God.
You are the God of your own life, but are you? Do you feel in charge or are you getting swept up by life, just trying to hang on… If you feel like the latter, you might want a spiritual guide. Someone who knows how to navigate the trials of life, the cause and effect of things, and how to remain centered and grounded no matter the circumstance. We all need teachers. We all need a way of doing things. And without a spiritual path, you may feel that there is a large part of you you are not accessing.
So being a Guide has its challenges. I am not perfect, but I train and work to show up a little better each day for the people I serve. And whatever challenge I face is nothing compared to joy I feel helping others. Investing in your spiritual health is a leap. Standing in this world as a Guide is a leap.
The reward is worth the jump.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Spiritual Guide certified by the Modern Mystery School. I have been training within their lineage since 2014. I specialize in advanced spiritual healing and metaphysical teaching.
Essentially, I work with clients one on one, providing energetic support and perspective. I teach ancient wisdom practices and offer tools to help people heal their traumas and build a more empowered life.
Clients begin with the Life Activation. A private healing session that lasts a few hours. After this, they may move forward to the Empower Thyself Program. Then, I work as a Guide offering consistent coaching, healing sessions, and classes.
I am proud of my training. It is what sets me apart from many other healers.
