Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Park.
Hi Jane, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My family and I immigrated from South Korea to build a life here to build and live this “American Dream” in the United States. As a family, we have worked hard together under the great leadership of my father. My parents showed and taught us three daughters everything from work ethics, family morals and values, knowing our Korean roots, the importance of adaptation in America, and other pertinent things such as never being afraid to start something new even if you can’t speak the English native language fluently or lacking experience.
After many small businesses we have had as a family, our most recent one started in 1979 by my father. It initially started as a wholesale distributor of a Korean branded innerwear company and eventually branched out into being the wholesale distributor of non-apparel items such as food and beverages.
After I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Cal Poly Pomona, I started working with my father at his company he built. Having started at a very entry-level position and eventually building my way up, I have gained 19 years of experience in international business, management, sales, business development, contract negotiations, and finance.
In the middle of my career at our family corporation, I started my own aviation-related department where my department provided daily food, beverage, and alcohol distribution for the LAX airport. We’ve eventually gained exclusivity for all major beer brands for the LAX airport territory.
Business continued to grow and the company continued to be stable. Unfortunately along with the majority of small businesses throughout the United States, we were highly affected by Covid-19 and the impact it had on the aviation world. We made an executive decision to shut the business down in late 2020.
I continued to work under another corporation in a similar field but eventually was laid off as well due to the airline industry being still so unstable.
When our family corporation closed in 2020, I found that extremely tough time in my family to find my individual calling. I always knew I was a leader and beyond capable of starting my own company. As a divorced mother solely financially responsible for my son, I was always afraid of the risks involved. With much contemplation, encouragement, and soul searching, I started Jexy. This time, I wanted to be in the industry I was most passionate about.
I would appreciate all the support and opportunity to expose and introduce Jexy to this world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been really difficult to finance everything on my own cash-wise and put every life savings I had towards it. No loans were taken.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Jexy is a luxe jewelry line that is fun, colorful, playful, expressive, and really meant to truly accessorize your everyday outfit. It takes fun concepts i.e. ice cream into luxury accessories for any occasion. It is original to today’s accessory markets and really started with a vision that started deep inside my personal desires to find/have such accessories myself.
It took almost a full two years in the making, every personal dollar I saved, and all the courage I had within to start and launch this company. It went live online on June 5, 2023. Although I can never predict the outcome of any business, I am extremely grateful for having followed through with it and still believe that it is our Nation that allows for such small businesses to exist, run, and succeed.
Currently, there is no brand similar to Jexy and I have tons of concepts and designs that will be released every quarter as long as Jexy continues to grow.
I have used all my 20 years of business experience to set the foundation of Jexy, LLC to be able to quickly grow from a small business to an enterprise.
It is my personal dream to be able to build a company that can help my team also live their dreams as we continue to build this brand together.
What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is when you are able to add value and give back to the people who helped you whether directly or indirectly. As an accessory brand, it is successful when it actually does add value to that fashion statement and truly enhances/accessorizes the outfit.
