Today we’d like to introduce you to AyseDeniz Gokcin.
Hi AyseDeniz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The piano has been my language for a long time now: I have been using it to express myself and communicate with others since I was a child!
After rigorous classical training and getting my degrees at Eastman and Royal Academy of Music, attending summer festivals, and working with the world’s top piano professors (I am so grateful), I decided to create my own music projects and expand my repertoire by merging genres.
I’m most well known for my Pink Floyd Classical arrangements in the style of Franz Liszt which went viral exactly ten years ago. Currently, I focus on my original compositions which is why I moved to Los Angeles: to transition into scoring for TV/Media/Film. Very happy to say my first album was released by Audio Network and my music has started to be used in various media/TV channels!
As a concert pianist, I also absolutely love touring and connecting with my 500K+ fans around the globe; even though LA is a bit far, it is so worth it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a solo musician has its rewards but also challenges: the rewards are to create beautiful music that touches people’s hearts and minds and becomes their soundtracks. However, it comes at a cost.
My social life often halts because I cannot really control when the inspiration to compose comes and I need to be ready at all times to cancel my other plans. A similar thing happens when I need to practice before a concert – I simply pause everything in my life. It’s unlike any other job where you can plan things around your work times…
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a concert pianist and a neo-romantic composer. “What does that mean?” you ask. Well! My music sounds romantic like Tchaikovsky, is soundtrack-like inspired by Yann Tiersen and Ludovico Einaudi, but for virtuoso piano! So a mixture of my classical training with my love for TV/Films.
I also create bespoke musical experiences for brands – it is so exciting to work with different industries and find creative ways to tell their stories.
My latest album Patterns came out last month and for the first time, we recorded it with a real orchestra! I am super excited about it, especially because it was my dream to write for TV / Media and finally have done that! The album was produced by Audio Network and the music has already started to be used in various media/channels.
On September 29th I’m performing my Pink Floyd Classical piano arrangements at Historic Woman’s Club, Santa Monica in collaboration with Fever: https://feverup.com/m/
What’s next?
I will be performing at Walt Disney Hall on August 5th, 2023! It will be my Los Angeles Debut and the Orchestral World Premiere of my compositions Chaos and Kelton with LAKMA Philharmonic. It’s a dream come true as Frank Gehry’s
In the coming months, I am I would love to write for Film/TV as well as brands to create their musical identity.
My goal is to create a piano-focused soundtrack for a feature film or to write music for a scene where the piano is a component of the plot! I already have a few directors I want to work with.
I also hope to expand my Piano Academy: borderlesspiano.com, which is a course I created for beginners. I would like to work with local schools and companies to get their students and employees to learn how to play the piano in their own time using my Core Piano method.
I will be performing at Disney Hall on August 5th! (More info here: http://adpianist.com/
