Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Elizabeth.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Accepting that I had an issue with drugs and alcohol was nearly impossible. After spending 15 years in active addiction, the road to recovery has been less than perfect. It is hard enough to attempt to stay sober on a good day, but add in regular life woes and trials, and it becomes exceedingly difficult. Some of the things I went through led me to use non-traditional substances other than drugs or alcohol such as cough medicine and listerine (some of which has alcohol in it). I definitely do not recommend this path haha but this is my journey, and everything I have gone through is a learning experience that has led me to where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My mission is to… Represent people who are dealing with the struggles and the shame that comes from feelings of inadequacy leading to destructive behaviors. I want to inspire them with radical honesty to define who they want to be.
I am training to become a Holistic Coach with a designation as a She Recover Coach. I recently published my memoir, Split Ends, which is my transformational story encompassing my childhood through my life today. Split Ends is a compilation of true stories of addiction, abusive relationships, mental health struggles, infertility, and, finally, a mom of twins (spoiler alert- it’s me) fighting to stay sober.
I am known for sarcastic wit as an hors d’oeuvre with a side of humor and compassion as the main entree.
I am most proud of my sobriety and my twins.
I never wanted to fit the mold, always wanting to stand out which, in itself, sets me apart from others.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being in love with myself makes me happy, but it is an incredibly difficult achievement. Self-love is important because without it, it is impossible to truly love others to my highest capacity.
My kids are my ultimate dreams come true. I will be honest and say mothering them is the hardest thing in the world, leading to many meltdowns and doubts. However, loving them is truly a blessing.
Traveling is also my happy place. I love seeing the world.
