Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica De Leon.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hola! My name is Jessica De Leon, a first-generation Guatemalan-American with a deep-rooted passion for holistic healing. I was raised in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, I was fortunate to experience the rich cultural tapestry of the Southbay, including Gardena, Hawthorn, and Redondo Beach.
It was at the tender age of 18 that I first encountered the wonders of this beautiful medicine, and from that moment on, I knew I had discovered my life’s purpose. In 2016, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University in Los Angeles, solidifying my foundation in this ancient healing art. Following my studies, I successfully passed the CA Boards in May 2017, opening the door for me to make a tangible impact on the well-being of others.
My path led me to train in various clinics, ranging from the Venice Family Pain Clinic to volunteering at Being Alive in West Hollywood, where I provided acupuncture treatment to HIV patients. Additionally, I embarked on an enlightening journey of intensive clinical training at esteemed institutions such as the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center and the Institute of Acupuncture and Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.
While my foundation rests in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I felt compelled to expand my healing repertoire. Thus, I dedicated an additional two years to studying under Dr. Mikio Sankey to become a Practitioner of Esoteric Acupuncture. This beautiful modality allows me to work with the chakra system, sacred geometry, and the subconscious, taking the mind-body-spirit connection to profound depths. By infusing a touch of esoteric and traditional acupuncture into each treatment, I create a transformative healing experience for my patients.
In honoring the essence of my culture and respecting the traditions of this ancient medicine, I find balance by incorporating the principles of Taoism into my practice. This philosophy guides me in fostering harmony with nature, recognizing the interconnectedness of all beings. By attuning ourselves to the natural rhythms of the universe, we can restore balance within the body, mind, and spirit, paving the way for optimal well-being.
With profound gratitude, I embrace the privilege of being of service to the community. It is an honor to practice a medicine that transcends cultural boundaries, and I strive to honor its traditions while infusing my own cultural heritage and personal touch into every treatment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the most significant hurdles I faced was navigating the multifaceted role of an entrepreneur. As a practitioner running my own business, I had to wear multiple hats simultaneously. I had to balance providing exceptional patient care with the demands of managing finances, marketing, and administrative tasks. Juggling these responsibilities required careful planning, time management, and adaptability.
In the midst of my professional journey, I also experienced the gift of motherhood. Becoming a mother while running a business added a whole new layer of complexity to my life. It meant finding ways to create a harmonious balance between my professional responsibilities and the joys and demands of raising a child. It required me to refine my time management skills, seek support from loved ones, and prioritize self-care to maintain my own well-being while caring for others.
Just when I thought I had weathered these challenges, the world was hit by an unprecedented pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic posed immense difficulties for my practice.
Throughout these ups and downs, I have remained committed to my calling. The hurdles I faced have only strengthened my passion for helping others. I have embraced the challenges as opportunities for growth, learning, and personal development.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One invaluable lesson that I consistently remind myself of is the notion that while I am capable of accomplishing anything, it’s essential to acknowledge that I can’t do everything all at once. This principle holds tremendous significance in my daily life and professional endeavors. With a multitude of ideas and a grand vision for the future of La Luz Wellness, it’s crucial for me to temper my enthusiasm and recognize the importance of pacing myself.
As an entrepreneur, I am continuously bursting with ideas, innovations, and plans to propel my business forward. However, I have come to understand that progress and growth take time and must be approached strategically. I actively practice prioritization and focus, understanding that each task or initiative has its rightful place in the journey of achieving my vision.
By reminding myself of the mantra, “I can do anything, but I can’t do everything right now,” I cultivate a sense of patience, self-awareness, and realistic expectations. This mindset empowers me to break down my ambitions into manageable steps, allowing for efficient execution and consistent progress.
