Daily Inspiration: Meet Roz Rabbani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roz Rabbani.

Roz Rabbani

Hi Roz, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I graduated college in 2020, right when Covid started and moved back in with my parents and started baking a lot like so many other people. I started an Instagram page to post the things I baked for my friends and family. One of my good friends asked me to make a couple of cakes for his sister’s small wedding and I said yes even though I hadn’t really decorated cakes before. I had about two months until the wedding so I practiced at least weekly, and then I never stopped. Once I started posting my cakes more on Instagram and TikTok, people started DMing me to order them. Now I make cakes full-time!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been fairly smooth. It gets a little hard sometimes since it’s a one-woman show. I’m the baker, the decorator, the shopper, the social media manager, the photographer, the videographer, the customer support representative. It definitely gets a bit overwhelming at times but it’s pretty simple and I get to do things how I want.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a cake baker/decorator based in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. I specialize in vintage-style cakes with a lot of embellishments. I’m known for my fun, colorful, girly take on the classic vintage cake. I add things like disco balls, glitter cherries, edible images, and other fun toppers on my cakes, which I have become known for. I am most proud of the fact that I created a whole business out of a hobby that I started in my parent’s kitchen. I love the fact that I have a pretty specific clientele of Gen-Z/Millennial people (mainly girls/women) who order & post my cakes online. I’d set me apart is that I really relate to my clientele since I am one of them. I’ve created a really beautiful community of similar/like-minded individuals on my Instagram and TikTok pages, which is super fun and exciting. Also, I like to post some interactive content on my Instagram, such as bracket-style food polls that my followers can vote on. I also have a monthly post that I do on Instagram called “HOT GIRLS LUV ROZGOTCAKE” which is a compilation of photos of my beautiful customers with their cakes. I also make and sell fake cake objects like mirrors, jewelry boxes, other trinket boxes, etc.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I actually started baking during Covid & quarantine, so I wasn’t really working through the thick of the pandemic. But I guess I learned that it’s important to focus on & make time for your hobbies & interests because you never know what they may become.
