Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamerie Crenshaw.
Hi Kamerie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a mompreneur! A mother busy raising a family, keeping my marriage strong, and maintaining my CPR business.
Palm Pushers is a female-owned company that was started by A go-getter. Just a mom of 4 with a passion for helping others. I have always been dedicated to improving the health, wellness, and safety of all people.
It all started during my summers in elementary/junior high, I would visit my grandmother Aurelia. During those visits, I would accompany her to her various doctor’s appointments. Learning about her health and the medication prescribed to her. Attending the appointments gave me a new understanding of healthcare. The physicians always allowed me to ask questions and take notes. I loved learning what to do if an unexpected medical emergency happened while being with her.
When growing up, I always wanted to be a pediatrician. As I got older, I found out how long it would take and the thought of being in school for so long made me lose interest in becoming a pediatrician. I was ready to help people now, not later.
Once I graduated high school, I became a caregiver. Starting off as a caregiver gave me the ability to be well-rounded when it came to different disabilities, communities, religions as well as diversity in all ages.
After gaining five years of experience as a caregiver, I earned my medical assistant certification.
I believe the medical assistant role opened the door for me to see different avenues in the medical field. Especially working in the pediatric department and urgent care at a local ambulatory clinic.
While being a medical assistant, I earned a certification in phlebotomy. Working as a phlebotomist definitely taught me a different type of patience.
As time when on and I wanted bigger roles in the medical field. I went to college to earn my associate degree in medical clinical. Then my bachelor’s in healthcare management and lastly in 2022 I earned my master’s in business specializing in entrepreneurship with leading global & diverse cultures
College opened my eyes and showed me that I needed to become an entrepreneur. I learned so much in my bachelor’s and master’s programs. I knew I wanted to be a business owner.
When rectifying my BLS card at the end of 2021 I realized that teaching CPR was the way to go. My calling was to teach others how to save a life! I was born to do this. I did my research, saved my money, and asked a lot of questions before I took the leap to become the owner of Palm Pushers CPR.
With the help of MCR Medical and Prestan Products, I was able to purchase all of the equipment needed. I am an instructor that’s licensed/certified to teach through the American heart association and the American red cross in all 50 states!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I thought it would’ve been much harder. I had a plan and I stuck to it. I didn’t feel rushed when doing things at my own pace. Knowing what I wanted for the business kept me motivated. With prayer and positive feedback from family and friends, I was able to successfully start Palm Pushers. I’ve never been the type to speak publicly. As a facilitator/instructor, I have to speak to individuals and large groups when teaching or when looking for new clients. I had to learn tone, patience, and how to speak to people in a way that they’ll understand. My mom and brother helped me with that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a CPR facilitator/instructor. Specializing in heart code and basic life support certifications. I ensure my classes are adapted to the needs of each and every customer. We have translators available as well as accommodations for people with health conditions or impairments. By having inclusive training, we can break down gender and racial stereotypes and demonstrate that anyone can learn and perform CPR. My goal is to ensure that everyone leaves the BLS, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses feeling confident in their ability to respond in a real-life emergency, no matter the situation or setting.
I teach children as well as adults. Children as young as 10 can get certified in CPR/first-aid, babysitters training, as well as wilderness and remote.
I’m proud of the clientele I’ve gained. In just one year. I’ve taught over 250 people! The love I’ve been receiving from the communities I serve has been incredible and I have been more than blessed.
My desire and passion for helping people genuinely sets me apart. By being a mobile CPR business, I can meet clients anywhere including their homes or place of business/employment, even the park. I make my courses fun, interactive, and informative.
I’m most proud when I motivate my clients struggling to learn CPR and feel like giving up to stay motivated and pass the course.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about the cities that I serve is that they are all diverse. I’ve learned so much from working with different cultures and religions. I love being able to teach in such a diverse community. No matter your background, everyone can learn CPR.
What I like least is definitely the traffic.
