Paola Carleo

Paola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and for the past 15 years, I have called both Rome and Los Angeles my home. These two cities have shaped my perspective and allowed me to see things from different angles. My journey as an artist began at the age of 19 when I started working as an actress. I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship at the prestigious Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia under the guidance of the renowned director Giancarlo Giannini. Throughout my acting career, I also pursued my academic interests, studying Communication and Advertising at a University in Rome, earning a degree along the way.

However, my life took an exciting turn when my best friend, who is now my husband, and I made the decision to move to Los Angeles. We both enrolled at UCLA to study Marketing. I discovered here my big passion for photography and graphic design, giving rise to the establishment of my very own studio, Berry Bee. At this point in my life, I had also embraced the beautiful journey of motherhood, which not only taught me the meaning of strength but also connected me deeply with the power and spirit of women.

When both of my children entered the captivating world of entertainment, a new chapter began in my life. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for capturing the essence of young actors through headshot photography and coaching them for auditions. Working with children and immortalizing their unique personalities is an absolute joy for me.

I have the privilege of collaborating with the most prestigious youth agencies in town. This partnership has allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant energy of aspiring young talents and provide them with the guidance and support they need to shine. It is a joy to witness their growth and success as they navigate their paths in the industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My artistic journey of self-discovery has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging endeavors I have undertaken. Adding to the complexity, I embarked on a life-altering transition to a new Country, where I grappled with learning a new language and adapting to an entirely different way of life. The process was not without its trials, but with perseverance and an open mind, I gradually began to embrace the opportunities that arise from stepping out of my comfort zone.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Berry Bee Studio is my entire photography world. Throughout the years, I have utilized photography as a powerful medium to capture special moments, freeze unique emotions, and delve into the depths of the human experience. As a mother of two boys who are both actively involved in the entertainment industry, specializing in kids’ headshots has become a particular focus of mine. It is an incredible blessing to collaborate with the top agencies in Los Angeles, working alongside talented young individuals as they embark on their own artistic journeys.

Drawing from my own experience as an actress, I possess a deep understanding of the multitude of emotions that can be conveyed in front of the camera. This understanding allows me to foster an environment of trust and comfort, enabling my subjects’ true authenticity to radiate through the lens. I strive to capture not only their physical appearance but also their inner essence, immortalizing their genuine spirit in every photograph.

Working with children and young actors brings me immeasurable joy. Their unfiltered emotions, boundless energy, and natural curiosity infuse each session with a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Witnessing their growth, both personally and professionally, is a privilege that I cherish.

In addition to my photography expertise, I am also a graphic designer with a strong background in visual art. This unique combination of skills enhances my abilities as a photographer, allowing me to bring a heightened sense of composition, aesthetics, and storytelling to my work.
