Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita Waldburger.
Hi Margarita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a music business professional, my story in the field has been quite a ride. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be involved in the music industry and the arts in some way, but wasn’t exactly sure how. I had this burning desire to try everything, from making music myself to working behind the scenes.
I got my first exposure to the music industry when I began playing the cello at the age of 11. It was like love at first sound, and I knew right then and there that music was going to be my lifelong passion. So, when I turned 18, I decided to apply to Berklee College of Music, one of the most renowned institutions that offers a wide range of programs that matched my diverse interests.
I started studying in Valencia, Spain for my first year of college, and then I made my way to the main campus in Boston for the next two years. It was a journey of learning, growing, and discovering new aspects of the music industry.
During my second year in college, I decided to major in music business and management because I became very curious about learning to help artists succeed and giving the arts the recognition they truly deserve. However, my degree wasn’t just about theory & books. I knew I needed real-life experience so, I hustled my way into internships. I wanted to see how things really worked in the music industry.
By the time I finished my bachelor’s degree, I had completed four internships. These opportunities were awesome and allowed me to work with some talented and renowned artists. I had the privilege of collaborating with managers of figures such as Brandi Carlile, Desiigner, Grace Potter, Angelique Kidjo, Valerie June, Leo Kottke, Aneliee List and DRU FLECHA. In these roles, I contributed my skills as a publicist, agent, A&R, marketing specialist, and coordinator, doing whatever was necessary to support the artists and their careers.
My deep love for music, combined with my relentless dedication to the music business, has brought me to where I am today. I’m in a place where I can actively contribute to the success of artists and the growth of the art scene. I’m just getting started but I’m hungry for more opportunities!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been struggles. Being away from family and my culture, along with the language barrier, were the main challenges. But when I think about the love and passion I have for music & entertainment world, it has made the journey smoother.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With years of experience as a musician and immersing myself in the music scene, I have developed a keen eye for identifying areas where artists need to improve in order to succeed. For example, I came across an artist who possessed incredible vocal talent and a clear artistic vision but lacked knowledge on self-promotion, exposure, and securing live performances. I stepped in and helped this artist on her social media presence, securing her first gigs and effectively communicating her unique concept to the public.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to generate innovative ideas for artists when it comes to branding and conceptualization. I really like organizing releases, managing accommodations, and implementing effective marketing and PR strategies for artists. Overall, I’m most proud of my track record in helping artists develop their careers and maximize their potential. Witnessing their growth and seeing their dreams come to fruition is incredibly fulfilling.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that most people who know me or my work/brand might not know is that I recently took on a role as a talent coordinator at Igloo Music. And here’s the twist – I’m not just working with artists, but also with actors! It’s been an exciting and unexpected journey, and I’m learning a whole lot from this new dimension of my work.
