Check Out Leslie Campbell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Campbell.

Leslie Campbell

Hi Leslie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story as a performer began the morning I gave my Senior Speech. I performed a spoken word piece I had written. At the end of my performance, I received a roaring standing ovation! At that moment, I understood so many things about myself. I understood what I was meant to do, what I was meant to contribute to the world, and how I was supposed to do it. There’s no coincidence that almost a year later, at Arizona State University, I found myself in my first acting class. Soon after, I graduated with a BA in Theater, and a BA in Global Health. At 18, I understood for the first time what it was like to impact an audience with my truth, with my own words, and with my own voice. I have been in pursuit of these moments of cathartic collaboration ever since.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many types of challenges and obstacles I’ve faced along the way. But these challenges are the reason for my resilience, my growth, and my artistic expansion. My road has been all the more beautiful as a result! Acting is an art that requires reverence for the human condition. I would say the most challenging aspect of my journey has been peeling back the layers of myself I’ve been conditioned to accept and make excuses for in order to make room for my truth to take presence. The depth of our choices will always match how deep we’ve actually looked into ourselves and why we are the way that we are. It’s not enough to be complacent, you’ve got to dig deep, all the while having compassion for yourself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am based in Los Angeles, and I am an Actor. I am also a model. I love the stage and can recall collaborating on so many amazing shows. I’ve worked with Michael Rohd and was cast as Prosecutor in a revival of ‘The Compass’ (originally debuted in Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre). In that same vein, I am also enjoying collaborating with friends and colleagues on self-produced film projects! I recently co-created, co-wrote, and co-starred in the short, ‘Castigation’. I am also a part of an upcoming project, ‘OWT’, as Tara. I think that my strength as an actor lies in my ability to create moments that expose an aspect of the hidden nature of a character. I think this, combined with the presence I possess, has made for some of my most enjoyable performances so far! I am most proud of the fact I’ve trusted my path, and I now get to be a part of so many fascinating stories and projects!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Like any artist, what matters most to me is the nature of my own craft. As an actor, I am always trying to stay in dialogue with my creativity. How am I showing up with my own voice today? How are my experiences informing the choices I make? How can I be more aligned with my truth? In everyday life, what matters most to me right now is maintaining my joy. I’m understanding the importance of joy and its positive impact on my creativity. Joy invites a wonderful sense of play and freedom that I love using to generate my inner life as an actor.
