Hi Farah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a perfume reviewer and content creator on TT, IG, YT @farahsthoughts. Ever since the early 2000s when YT became a popular space to be creative in, I’ve always thought to myself, “I need to make time to do this one day.” Never did I ever think it would be in 2021 and on TikTok! When the pandemic hit, I found myself on youtube university learning all about perfumery. As an Arab, I prioritized smelling good so I’ve already had a generous collection of perfume bottles however I never did a deep dive in understanding their notes and how fragrances are made, etc.
There wasn’t a lot of Arab perfume content online and I wanted to give my input since a good chunk of my collection was from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE. My Arab fragrance reviews, beginner-friendly Oud and layering videos were a great hit!
My biggest surprise was finding genuine friends online that share this hobby with me. I’m so pleased to say I’ve found more Arab fragrance content creators from this new journey and I can’t wait to meet them all in real life!
I’m currently diving into Beauty content (Recently found out I’m a Sephora squad finalist), so stay tuned for more growth!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Burnout is real! In the start of my content creation journey, it was super exciting, energizing to create and edit however you need time off. You need to set a schedule or you will burnout! I’ve found myself thinking I want to delete my account countless times and that’s when I knew I’ve pushed myself too hard.
I want to create a space where people can get information and also feel good about themselves. Whenever I feel anxious or overwhelmed I started taking weekends off and sometimes weeks off to refresh. Then I come back with a video talking about fragrances that I like to wear when I’m feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
Fragrance is an aromatic tool that can help uplift your mood and not just attract a cutie haha
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is a personality trait, some people don’t have it in them. I believe it’s something people tend to have to do to grow. If you never take risks and make yourself uncomfortable, look silly/dumb, you’re not living or growing.
Traveling to new places and countries can be the best way to take risks and have fun learning new cultures. That’s how you grow and learn. It’s exponential growth, all the risks give you skills and it adds up in the end.
It’s okay to say that sucked and do the work to really reflect on the whole experience.
