Inspiring Conversations with Nicole Victoria of No Budget Babe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Victoria.

Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for finance and helping others improve their financial situations. After graduating from college, I began my career in the corporate field, but quickly realized I wasn’t going to be able to have the impact to my life and others if I stayed. I got my real estate license so I could work for myself and start guiding people on the largest financial transaction of their lives, and gained experience working for several different firms. However, I found that the traditional financial advice being given to clients often didn’t resonate with them, and it wasn’t always effective in helping them achieve their financial goals.

This led me to start my own financial coaching business, No Budget Babe, where I focus on providing practical, accessible financial advice to young professionals and millennials. Through No Budget Babe, I’m able to empower my clients to take control of their finances and develop sustainable, long-term financial habits.

I’ve also become a thought leader in the finance industry, sharing my insights and expertise through writing (I’m a published author) and speaking engagements. I believe that it’s important to educate people on personal finance in a way that’s relatable and accessible, especially for those who may feel intimidated by the subject.

Overall, my journey to where I am today has been shaped by my passion for helping others and my desire to make a positive impact in the finance industry. I’m excited to continue growing my business and sharing my knowledge with others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to success is never easy. Along the way, I faced a lot of struggles. Being a mom, a business owner, and working full time left me with very little time for myself. I also had personal issues to deal with, like my autoimmune condition, two high-risk pregnancies, and my child’s rare health conditions. On top of that, I had no help understanding money or how to run a business, everything I know was knowledge I sought out on my own – and then finessed through trial and error. I had to put myself through school and ended up with a lot of debt. I even had to drop out of high school to support myself and escape a difficult home life – and I could have let those things break me, but instead I took a lesson out of every challenge and learned how to “do the thing” even when I didn’t feel like it because my goals were bigger than my complacency or fear.

I learned that life is always going to be hard in some way or another. The key is to choose which challenges you want to face. Staying stuck would have been really hard, but finding the determination to change my life was just as tough. My true “why”, being my values of family and freedom, are what keeps me going.

There’s a quote that inspires me: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” This means that even if things don’t go perfectly, as long as you keep trying, you can still succeed. It’s important to never give up, no matter how hard things get.

If the plan doesn’t work, we change the plan and not the goal.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
No Budget Babe is not your typical financial literacy company. We specifically cater to women who have historically been excluded from important money conversations. It’s crucial to address this imbalance because finances impact everyone’s lives. Unfortunately, women have often been labeled as excessive spenders and have been taught to focus solely on budgeting and couponing – which don’t actually move the needle.

To illustrate this issue, let me share a few shocking statistics about women and money.

The average pay to a man’s dollar: 86 cents for Asian women, 82 cents for women overall, 75 cents for white women, 61 cents for Black women, for Native women, and 52 cents for Latinx women.

Higher education levels make the wage gap wider: The average pay to a man’s dollar for women with a college degree is.

Women on average reach their peak earnings. Men keep climbing for much longer and reach their peak earnings at 55.

Due to these pay gaps, women on average lose over a 40-year career, according to a recent estimate. Progress toward closing the wage gap has stalled. It was closing rapidly but has been relatively flat since. When you look at earnings over 15-year periods, the wage gap is even wider. Women made of what men did on average, due to career breaks.

Women see wages drop after having a child, men do not: Mothers on average are paid to every dollar paid to fathers.

Women ask for raises as often as men but don’t get them. In one study, women who asked for a raise got one, while men got raises 20% of the time.

These statistics highlight some of the significant challenges and systemic barriers that women, particularly those from marginalized groups, face in the workplace. It is essential to address these disparities and strive for equality and inclusivity in all aspects of society.

Studies also show that women are traditionally not taught about investing, negotiation, or starting businesses, whereas these topics are commonly covered for men. We believe it’s time to challenge these norms and provide a different approach to financial education.

Our methodology sets us apart from traditional financial advice because we recognize that what worked for our parents may not work for us. We take a holistic view of money by addressing the mindset and behaviors that have kept individuals stuck in their financial situations. In fact, personal finance is 80% mindset and behavior and only 20% tactic. By focusing on psychology, we help our students build a solid foundation, making the rest of the journey easier – so when we teach them the million-dollar tactic, it sticks, and it’s seamless.

Unlike other programs that emphasize strict budgeting and restriction, we avoid causing a scarcity mindset. We understand that everyone’s goals, values, and financial circumstances are different, so a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. Instead, we teach our students how to make more money without working harder, save more without sacrificing the things they love, and invest with confidence.

Our three-month coaching program takes students through the exact steps I personally used to transform my life. From being in $40k debt to becoming a millionaire at the age of 30, I have experienced firsthand the power of our approach, and now so have thousands of other women. The impact of our program extends far beyond financial gains, positively influencing overall well-being, including reduced stress, improved sleep, and better relationships.

At No Budget Babe, we are passionate about empowering women to rewrite their financial stories. We want our readers and potential clients to know that we offer a unique and transformative journey toward financial freedom. By joining us, they can unlock their full potential and create a life of abundance, not just financially but in all aspects that matter to them.
