Meet Stephen Anthony

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Anthony.

Hi Stephen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a family of musicians. My dad, uncles and cousins all play the piano, guitar, drums and sing. I am also a musician and play the drums and a little piano. I got started and fell in love with music at five years old. When I was in middle school, I discovered my talent for writing and blended that with my love and talent in music. My favorite rapper as a kid was Nas and I started writing rap songs. I worked and crafted my skills over the years and picked up mixing and mastering as well. I moved to LA and went to Musician’s Institute for a year and learned how to master my own sound as an artist. I came back home to San Diego, CA and started my own rap group, Black Kennedy and have released an album on streaming platforms, I’ve done shows all in California and have collaborated with many artists and have plans to drop more songs and visuals. I am a chill, good vibes type of guy, yet a partygoer and someone who expresses all my personality, life experiences and those of others in my life all throughout my music with passion and uniqueness in my sound. This is all possible thanks to my upbringing in music from my family. I am forever attached to music and my music will leave an impact on my fans forever.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. The music business isn’t for the faint of heart. Not for the weak. This road has literally been one of the hardest and most stressful I’ve ever been on. Struggles have been thoughts of giving up entirely due to not feeling enough respect, not enough support from those closest to me, how much everything costs and how quickly it adds up, how many relationships have been ruined, the scams and the feeling of not getting enough plays on social media. I have dealt with all of this but the biggest thing to keep going is having the confidence that I am meant to do this. I am a great artist and I know that. I also have a deep passion for what I do and I know the impact I will make on this world through my music and my story. It’s all enough to make one quit and trust me, I have been extremely close many times, but the passion keeps me going.

Knowing that I am my own artist, and my sound isn’t like every artist out today. I sound completely different. Knowing that this business costs a lot, but that’s the price we pay to put out our content. Hustling and making a way for it is all worth it to me. Relationships I’ve built through music has been amazing and those whom I’ve fought with have been very few, but that is a learning lesson I had to go through. Knowing and accepting that, coming up, not everyone will support you or even listen, but those who do, matter a lot more. Knowing to keep going and having the confidence every time is important because you never know who is watching and listening. My break will come soon enough, so I will keep trying. I am not aiming for fame, but for people to be impacted and love the music I make is why I continue to do this.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a rap artist. I specialize in making any type of music, I consider myself a versatile artist and talented writer. I am known for my metaphors/bars in my songs and the creative and catchy hooks and wordplay. I make songs about everything I’ve been through in my life or the experiences of others I am closest too to relate to all types of people. I love women and a lot of my songs deal with the relationships and experiences I’ve had with them. I also rap a lot about many other things in life and have more conscious music coming out soon. I am most proud of my passion and skill in music. The fact that, no matter what, I continue to do music every day. I am an artist who takes it seriously and continues to learn more and more every day.

What sets me apart from others, I’d say would be my drive to perfect my craft with my insane work ethic in music. I am always learning something new and applying that to my skills. My confidence sets me apart as well because if no one believes in me, I do. And that’s enough for me. My ability and love for working with other artists, producers, fans, designers and promoters set me apart as I am easy to work with and love uplifting others and helping them in any way that I can. In my eyes, everyone around me will eat!
