Rising Stars: Meet Arthur Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Davis.

Hi Arthur, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in Gary, IN recording music with my friends in High School for fun. I continued to evolve as an artist and in 2016 I got my first sync placement in the Latin film, “No Manches Frida”. I moved to LA in 2017 and started working with Sleeping Giant Media as a songwriter. At the end of that contract, I interned as an A&R/Music Coordinator to learn the business side of things. In 2019, I was hired full time and now I am the Head of Urban Music for Sleeping Giant Media. I also have a solo music project dropping this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road of an artist is never smooth, lol. It was definitely hard moving so far away from my friends and family to pursue my career. It was also challenging for me to transition from the “creative” side to the “business” side of the industry. At the end of the day, it made me a better artist and a better executive so I’m grateful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, in a nutshell, I work with Filmmakers and Music Supervisors in coordinating the music they use in their projects. I specialize in Hip Hop music but I’ve worked with many different genres on several different projects. (“Bladerunner Black Lotus”, “The Expanse”, “Black Ink Crew” etc.) I communicate with songwriters to get the songs cleared, get writer splits, etc. I love to work with independent artists because it’s so difficult for independent musicians to get exposure. If I can find a big moment for a great song that’s not being heard, it’s a huge win for me. That makes me very proud. I feel like me being a recording artist myself really helps these relationships because I truly know how the artists feel.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I never sought out a mentor. Honestly, if you put in the work, doors will open and relationships will be made. I’ve met many great people who gave me good advice along the way. But focus on the craft, you know?
