

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nury Gomez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nury. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have had an entrepreneurial and accounting spirit most of my life. It began when I was only 15 at Hamilton High School right after my brother, Dennis, had joined the Navy. Occurring naturally, I became his Controller/Bookkeeper overlooking his naval bank account while he served overseas on the USS Abraham Lincoln. I set forth with the tasks of paying his bills and making sure he had enough in his account so he could buy a calling card and other necessities while overseas.
Three years later, that experience helped my transition to become a Notary Public, where I obtained a CTEC IRS License and began working with my father’s company, California Paralegal Services. While the company helped immigrants, who had been living and working in California for years get legalized with the INS, I became the tax preparer and notary who helped their clients transmit, update, and pay their taxes.
Meanwhile, in my first year of undergraduate studies at Cal State Dominguez Hills, I began a part-time bookkeeper position at California Animal Hospital (CAH). And at 19 years old, when my dad passed away, the office closed which led to a full-time position with CAH. During the next ten years, as CAH grew, I became the CFO and developed my own accounting department of four.
As the small mom and pop animal hospital matured, an offer was presented to purchase CAH to become a part of a conglomerate made of 26 animal hospitals. Once the offer was accepted, I spent another couple of years in the industry as Chief Operation Officer to transition and replicate the well-oiled machine we had with CAH into the other hospital’s applications. During this purchase, over 40 of my friends and coworkers were laid off while I used the time to learn about mergers and acquisitions and presenting to investors. By 2013, my turn was up, my position was eliminated and they sold off the remaining 4 hospitals. By 2014, Accounting Breeze was born, because I had developed a passion for helping small businesses grow and be job creators, while I supplied the business acumen for them to have more confidence in their dreams. Since 2016, I have been an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Pepperdine University as well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been mostly smooth, I was ready to run a business. Referrals became quickly the easiest way to get clients. LinkedIn Profinder also has helped me out too. Some of the obstacles have encountered are software and computer glitches. I also haven’t been able to find other assistants that I can trust.
Please tell us about Accounting Breeze.
I am really proud of my relationships with my clients. We become friends and support each other. I am helping small businesses grow in a tough financial climate. I get involved intimately and become their CFO on Demand, Tax Preparer, business coach and advisor. Numbers tell a story and I can communicate with clients after their monthly bookkeeping to see how they are doing. I hold them accountable to their personal and business goals.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
