Today we’d like to introduce you to Albert Hsueh.
Hi Albert, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started from studying performing arts university in Taiwan. After graduating, I performed in a few original musicals in Taiwan. Because of my passion for musical theatre, I decided to come to NYC to learn the most authentic musical theatre. I got accepted to AMDA for musical theatre. After studying for two years, I started auditioning and working in musicals in the States and internationally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Typically, for a musical production, the rehearsal process is normally two to three weeks to put on a two-and-a-half-hour show. As a foreigner, it takes me triple the time for me to learn the lines and lyrics.
Audition is always the hardest; I typically submit to 5-8 shows. And most of the time, you get refused.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Musical theatre performer/educator.
I’m the first Taiwanese actor to be in a professional production of CHICAGO in North America. I recently worked at a Tony award-winning Signature Theatre in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Pacific Overtures. I was in MAMMAMIA! Tour in China and worked with the creative team in London west end.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Always be kind to anyone surrounding you, being an easy person to work with is sometimes more important than your talent.
