Life & Work with Abhishek Patel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abhishek Patel.

Hi Abhishek, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Indian cinema consists not of just one film industry, but an amalgamation of film industries representing different parts of the country. Growing up in India, I was exposed to different film industries with distinct styles and cultures. I was always fascinated by the world that filmmakers created and relatable characters. Looking at the society we live in, I believe that some social topics must be addressed in order to make our lives better and our society even stronger with love and harmony. With my film, I aim to address such topics and entertain people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Challenges are an integral part of life, and my journey has been no exception. Although I was pursuing my education in science, my passion for filmmaking always lingered in the back of my mind. Eventually, I made the unconventional decision to leave the field of science and pursue my dream of becoming a filmmaker. This decision wasn’t easy, but with the unwavering support of my family, I was able to believe in myself and strive towards achieving my best.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My journey in filmmaking started at the age of 21, when I participated in a national competition that also featured some of my dream film schools. Although I didn’t win, coming in second place strengthened my love for filmmaking. I continued to make films and with each one, I improved my craft. However, it was only when I came to Los Angeles and enrolled in a film school that my filmmaking journey truly began. There, I learned the art of storytelling and how to make it more compelling. I could see my progress with every film I made, and I hope that improvement reflects in my movies.

When choosing subjects and characters for my films, I strive to keep them humane and relatable to the audience. I believe that by creating stories that people can connect with and that encourage them to follow their hearts, I can make a difference. I also believe that my background as a poet helps me weave stories that can connect with the audience on a philosophical level. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion, and I hope that my films inspire others to follow their own dreams.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The impact of “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle and “The Art of Living” by Epictetus on my personal growth has been immense. These books have helped me become a better version of myself.
