Daily Inspiration: Meet Valentina Kazazian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentina Kazazian.

Hi Valentina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I’ve always had this fascination with painting and drawing. As a teen, makeup became a form of art for me, and I was able to express my creativity. I started working at MAC Cosmetics about nine years ago, and I was fortunate enough to shadow many incredible makeup artists, which allowed me to improve my skills and techniques. Fast-forward to the present day, I’m an independent makeup artist based out of a salon in Glendale, CA, specializing in bridal and event makeup.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been many challenges I’ve faced working in the beauty industry, but I’m thankful for all of them because I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for those struggles. Makeup 8-9 years ago was so different compared to now. The techniques weren’t as advanced, and the trends are constantly changing, so you need to stay up to date on all of it to stay relevant and to execute any look your client requests. I’ve had to do the free gigs and collaborations to get my name out there. I’ve done the 4/5 am call times and 14-hour days. Building your clientele is extremely difficult but necessary to be an independent makeup artist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist with a decade of experience. I specialize in bridal and event makeup, as well as photo shoots for maternity and pre-wedding. The type of makeup I do is long-lasting and photographs beautifully. I’ve had the pleasure of working on set for different incredible campaigns like the Becky G x IPSY collaboration, Michelob Ultra, Chita Beauty, and many others. I also enjoyed working with many influencers and models like Abigail Ratchford and Gabriella Halikas.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is constantly changing and evolving. We’re seeing a lot of soft glowy glam with a heavy blush focus. However, old trends seem to always come back into style, so I think the dramatic classic Kim K’s smokey eye will make its way back into the beauty world. There’s also an overwhelming amount of cosmetic brands coming out with repetitive products, so in my opinion, within the next 5-10 years, the unique and classic OG brands will take over the industry once again.
