Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Michelle Gottlieb.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr.Gottlieb. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always the one that everyone told their troubles to. I was a natural for being a psychotherapist. I was most intrigued to work with people who had suffered severe trauma. However, I always struggled that I could never do more than just help people cope with their wounds, not actually heal them. Until I learned about EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-Processing)-an evidence-based psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro in 1989. EMDR is amazingly effective in helping a client’s brain do what it is designed to do, which is make sense of the world and file things away so that they are no longer tortured by their past.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When EMDR was first discovered, many people did not believe that it actually did anything, that it was just a placebo effect, and not effective at all. After much research, we can show that it is an effective therapy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a psychotherapist located in North Orange County specializing in working with trauma, chronic pain and chronic illness. I am also a part-time faculty at Cal State Fullerton. I also train people to do EMDR therapy.
