Exploring Life & Business with Rachael Cappuccino of Cappuccino Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Cappuccino. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Dr. Rachael Cappuccino has been practicing physical therapy since 2014 but has specialized in pelvic floor physical therapy since 2018. She saw a niche for pelvic floor physical therapy as she was thinking about having kids of her own and realized she didn’t want her or her mom’s friends to live with issues that are common, but not normal after having a baby. Rachael started Cappuccino Physical Therapy in the summer of 2022 after the birth of her second child and wanting more time having two kids 17 months apart. Rachael experienced both a vaginal delivery and a cesarean, so she understands the physical challenges that come with pregnancy and recovery from birth. Too many women accept these challenges as their new reality. Dr. Rachael’s goal is to change this reality and allow women to live a life without symptoms after childbirth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wanted to start my own business so I could have more flexibility to spend time with my children. Starting a business with two kids under the age of two was a challenge, and running a business with a 2.5 yeard old and a 14-month-old is not any easier! I try to maintain a healthy work/life balance so that I can be fully present with my children when I am not at work, but this does not always happen, especially since I am solo. However, I have had great success early on in my practice and was fully booked after being open only six months. This goes to show the dire need for pelvic floor physical therapy in this area. I am so grateful for everyone who has supported me on this journey including my family, business mentors, community of moms, community of birth workers and friends.

We’ve been impressed with Cappuccino Physical Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cappuccino Physical Therapy is a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic that specializes in working with pregnant and postpartum women. Too often, women are led to believe that issues such as urinary incontinence, pain with s*x, diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapse and C-section scar pain are normal after having a baby. While these issues are certainly common, they are in no way normal. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help address these issues and allow women to run and jump with their kids without fear of leaking, and decrease any pelvic or abdominal pain. It’s also never too late to seek care for these issues, no matter how many years postpartum you are.

Cappuccino Physical Therapy also specializes in pregnancy and preparing for labor and delivery. This includes education on how to reduce the risk of tearing during delivery, movement during labor and delivery, breathing techniques and pushing positions and perineal massage.

Dr. Rachael Cappuccino is passionate about allowing women to live a life without limitations. She is proud to say that she has helped postpartum women get back to the activities they love which include running, cycling, HIIT training, and horseback riding to name a few. She believes that all pregnant and postpartum women should see a pelvic floor physical therapist to help educate and prepare for labor and delivery and to optimize postpartum recovery.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you are looking to optimize your pregnancy and delivery, want to focus on postpartum recovery or are having any pelvic floor issues, give me a call! I also love to educate and collaborate with birth workers such as OB/GYNs, midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, chiropractors, acupuncturists and other physical therapists about the benefits of pelvic floor physical therapy.
