Exploring Life & Business with Jerome Charvet of The Accent Method

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerome Charvet.

Hi Jerome, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an actor and American accent coach based between Los Angeles and Paris.

I grew up in France and I moved to New York to study acting when I was 19 years old. Since then, I have worked in films and TV series alongside Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth, Gerard Depardieu, Jean Reno, etc.

Due to the film industry’s demands, I understood early on that I had to seriously work on my accent if I wanted to be able to portray any role. I started working on it and became passionate about the process. With consistent practice, I was able to improve my accent significantly.

I developed a method that helped me sound like a native speaker and score American roles. Seeing how successful it was, I started coaching other actors as well as clients beyond my industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I moved to the United States, I immediately faced the challenge that every foreigner faces: I sounded different, was not being understood, and therefore not feeling confident.

With a strong determination to get rid of my accent, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and trained with some of the best coaches in the nation. Learning from all those experts, I noticed that many things being taught were repetitive or a waste of time, and I realized that some key principles can have an incredible impact on changing the way one speaks – efficiently and quickly.

Thanks to my own journey, I am able to understand what my clients’ obstacles are and what they need in order to overcome, progress and win, without the hassle that I had to go through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Accent Method is a synthesis of the best training possible to improve one’s accent forever. It’s fun, it’s fast, and it only requires 5 minutes a day. Learning to speak with an American accent has never been easier.

I coach mostly one-on-one but also offer group sessions and corporate seminars. From the very first session, I go right into the heart of it and teach essential tools that will stay with my clients for the rest of their lives.

People don’t realize it, but communication is the number one thing that connects you to the world and to others. It helps you shine when you go to an interview when you pitch an idea when you give a speech when you’re trying to convince other people.

My goal is to dramatically improve the way my clients speak so they can have outstanding communication skills, be more confident at work and in their personal life, achieve more and be even more successful in their careers.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use Headspace every morning and am a fan of the podcast “How to Fail with Elizabeth Day”. Each episode explores the life of an outstanding individual and how their failures eventually taught them how to succeed better.
