Life & Work with Cara-Hope Lorraine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cara-Hope Lorraine.

Hi Cara-Hope, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey began at the age of seven in a small theatre located in Greensboro, North Carolina. I lived there for nine years up until moving to Houston, Texas where I continued to sharpen and grow my skills to help develop my craft of acting. Whether I was working on a role, writing scripts, directing shows, or attending weekly voice lessons … there hardly was a time where I wasn’t doing something creative. Another ten years later, and I finally decided to make the big move to California in the summer of 2022. What started with the intention to just ‘act’ on screen and in plays, grew quickly into shooting my first professional short film last Fall, “Clothed Identity”, a film that tackles identity, anxiety, and drug abuse problems in America- all through the lens of the main character, “Lila”.

From writing, and directing, to producing the film, I found an even deeper heart for filmmaking as a whole. “Clothed” opened up my eyes to how not only do I love acting, but also for directing and capturing stories behind the camera. Working with such an amazing cast and crew on a project I hold so closely to my heart, made me realize that I had a desire to do something even more than ‘just act’. Now, I am happy to announce that I have just established my new Film Production Company, “Lorraine Film Studios”, along with my co-founder Lindey Sage who played “Lila” in the film. My hope for the studio is to forge a new way of film making which prioritizes cultivating an environment where everyone on the set feels valued and appreciated, all while getting to experience the special magic of creating. With that, the studio is currently prepping “Clothed Identity” for festivals, along with tackling pre-production for shooting our first feature film later this Fall.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
“Stay humble but hungry” is a quote my stepdad taught me from very early on. What I love about this quote is how it emphasizes the importance to always stay rooted in a foundation of love but also fight for any passions you might have. I have found that many, and myself included, struggle with the issue of identity. We are in a world where everyone is looking to tell you who you are, and so it very important to build the foundation of learning to know and trust yourself. My faith has played a major role in this part of my life and helped me grow a deep love for the person I am and am still becoming. After all, I remind myself that there is and will only ever be one ‘you’ on this earth … so why not embrace that?!?

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would say I am a ‘jack of all trades’. I act, write, direct, produce, and founded my company- Lorraine Film Studios. I think one thing that sets me apart from others is my deep, joyful mindset to believe that all things are truly possible. I have a ‘limitless’ approach, not only in my creative work but also in my personal life as well. I also genuinely love being able to connect and collaborate with so many different types of people thanks to the field of work I am in!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I want readers to know that they are more than capable of following their passions. We are only granted one shot on this earth, so my advice is to take it and run with it. Life will never be perfect and you aren’t even promised a tomorrow, but that’s where the adventure lies. So, learn to fall in love with the unknown and enjoy the adventure one step at a time. We are all in this together and I am rooting for you!
