Today we’d like to introduce you to Shinyoung Park.
Hi Shinyoung, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have graduated with a fashion degree at College in Korea. We had a class called ‘creating your own brand’. And one day in the library I was looking into fashion books to get an inspiration for my brand name and I came up with two words, Mischievous and Versatile(I still remember that moment). Those two words are the main personalities of what I want in my design so I combined the words into one word for my brand ‘MIS(Mischievous)-EN(and)-VER(Versatile)’. My mom used to tell me that she loves digging my backpack cause every time she opens it, there is always something new and entertaining inside. I love the fun and creativity an artist can create that entertains the people in visual aspects. I want my customers to feel the same way.
Since the day I have created my own brand name I have been dreaming of creating my dream into a reality.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, it was definitely the most unpaved road. I had my two years old son when I first started my business and I had to pause after a couple of months when I got baby number two with a bad pregnancy. Raising kids and starting up the business was the worst harmony and I do think it wasn’t the best decision and timing to start the business. But looking back I am proud that I started early and even though it has been a slow journey I am happy with what I have accomplished so far.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MISENVER is a Women’s accessories and bags company that is designed for women who are playful in colors and shapes and who are not afraid of standing out among others. I want MISENVER to be united with various women in the world, not limiting one another and give a good impact to the community being ethical and ecological. Recently I have been working with sustainable and environmentally friendly materials for new products and we will be launching an accessory that is made with sea leather which is made from fish skin that was provided by a food supply chain. They come in beautiful colors with exotic looks from scales. We are also coming up with replacing the leathers of our existing designs. For example, our best selling ‘Pillow bag’ will have new colors which are made from environmentally friendly leathers.
I believe a small move by MISENVER can definitely contribute to a positive impact on environmental issues caused by the fashion industry.
What were you like growing up?
When I was growing up I loved to draw or make something rather than reading a book. I loved friends and parties. I love meeting people. They give me energy. I had a strong desire in making my ‘own’ designs and creating something new in aesthetic aspects.
