Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Wylie.
Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Moved to Los Angeles from Denver in 2013 with a job at Urban Outfitters. The culture of Los Angeles inspired me to revamp the brand and use it to tell my experience in Los Angeles. I have an extensive background in Retail and knew that if I could create premium pieces that had an impactful message behind them, it would not only impact the community in Los Angeles but globally.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first moved to Los Angeles, I stayed in my car by Manhattan Beach for a few months. I used my gym membership at UFC to shower that way, I was presentable at work and when talking to manufacturers. I eventually moved in with my sister and slept on the floor in her studio apartment before I got my apartment. Once I finally got my apartment, I used 90% of the space for sewing, heat pressing, and taking product shots.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Before starting Idolize, I was a photographer and mentored under 2 well-known photographers who still shoot for Wilhelmina and Donna Balwin. I think being exposed storytelling through visuals sets our presentation apart from other brands. Something I’m most proud about is the retailers I’ve been able to collaborate with the brand and our most recent location opening in my hometown Denver.
