Daily Inspiration: Meet Wynter, Paisley, and Tiffany Scheid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynter, Paisley, and Tiffany Scheid.

Hi Wynter, Paisley, and Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello from Tiffany, Paisley, and Wynter. We are the Mother/Daughter trio that makes up Central Coast Glow. After growing up in the Bay Area, we relocated to the Central Coast of California. We fell in love with the area and its community and consider it our little slice of paradise. It’s been a source of inspiration in our jewelry-making journey & sparks our creativity to come up with new and innovative ideas. Our designs include the use of recycled materials such as copper and guitar strings. All of our creations are unique and inspired by the boho beach vibes of the area. We started small and have stayed small, only taking on a few friends and family here and there to help out. But this doesn’t keep us from growing our creativity, we’ve been able to branch out from just jewelry to some apparel and other accessories, as well as our exciting new Infinity Line, a selection of permanent jewelry! Being a minority-owned business (women-owned and Native-owned), we understand the struggles of owning a business. We appreciate the support we get from our community, and we try to pay it forward to other local small businesses. Creating is our passion, and we are so fortunate to be part of our local community of small businesses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As much as we’ve enjoyed our journey, it definitely hasn’t been an easy one. And while we don’t like to focus on the negative, we’ve definitely had to face many challenges. One of those is definitely marketing and social media, navigating the ever-changing algorithm can be a real pain. Not only is it hard to gain a following and support, but it can also be a challenge to be able to keep our customers and followers engaged with interesting and unique content. Sometimes we feel like we’re posting the same things over and over again and lack inspiration to keep up with social media trends. And going along with that, it can be difficult to try and stay consistent and unique at the same time. While imitation is a form of flattery, it can also be frustrating at times when we see our hard work being duplicated by others.

Another challenge has definitely been time management. Paisley works on jewelry full time, Tiffany runs an electrical contracting business, and I work at an elementary school with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. So with three different schedules, it can sometimes be difficult to all be at the same place at the same time and on the same page.

Finally, there was the challenge of gaining support. When we began in 2015, it was hard to get our name out there and actually build a customer base. However now, we are so thankful for all of the love and support we’ve received from our community.

As we mentioned before, we’re a women-owned and Native-owned business. So being minority-owned, we understand the struggles of trying to find your place at the table. Like we said, we don’t like focusing on the negative, so we try our best to look for the positive on our obstacles; We have learned a lot by trial and error, and we take these struggles as something that makes us stronger.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Central Coast Glow, we offer a variety of accessories that have a coastal minimalist / boho vibe. One of our specialties is copper wire jewelry. Because our family also owns an electrical contracting business, we have salvaged copper wire that would end up in a landfill, and we “up-cycle” it into unique jewelry pieces. Our jewelry line also includes other materials such as sterling silver, gold-filled, and rose gold-filled materials.

In February, we rolled out our new “Infinity Line”, a unique & fun permanent jewelry experience. Inspired by “friendship bracelets”, our clients can choose from different chains, which are then custom fit and “fused” together. These pieces are “permanent”, in that they do not have a clasp, they are joined with a pulse-arc welder directly on the client. There is a quick spark, it is painless, and will not come off without great effort or a pair of scissors. You can choose to have a bracelet, anklet, or necklace fused on your visit. So whether you are celebrating friendship, love, or a special occasion, it can be marked by a piece from our Infinity Line. It’s a true bonding experience.

Not only do we offer jewelry, we also have dabbled in doodling and a bit of graphic design. We received great feedback after designing our logo and putting it on a sticker. That positive response inspired us to create more original art, which now adorns stickers, hats, hoodies, and t-shirts too.

As of now, we don’t have a Central Coast Glow storefront. We originally started a shop on Etsy, but we were able to expand to our very own website (www.centralcoastglow.com). In addition, our pieces can be found at small businesses on the Central Coast. We also regularly pop up at local maker’s markets & events at the businesses that carry our line.

We enjoy being an active part of our small business community. We have planned and organized many maker’s markets in an effort to give fellow artists a place to showcase their work. We’ve also had the wonderful opportunity to work with community members to organize several charity events, including multiple fundraisers for the family of Kristen Smart, a local college student that went missing. Our community is a special one, and we are constantly looking for ways to give back.

We are forever proud of the brand we’ve created. Even though we’re constantly creating and coming up with new ideas, we’ve stayed true to ourselves, creating a unique vibe and style that stands out.

How do you define success?
Everyone has a unique opinion on the definition for success. For us, we define success as contentment, satisfaction, and continuing on our journey. Being content with setting and achieving our goals and being content with the outcome after we have given the task our very best effort. Getting satisfaction from the connections & relationships we have made with other artisans and small businesses in our community. And continuing our journey no matter what comes. Small businesses often struggle with uncertainty, economic setbacks, and keeping up with trends…so we find fulfillment in riding these waves and continuing on our journey.
