Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Webb.
Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been making music for a little over 11 years now, with an affinity for music ever since I was a youth. Growing up in my Southern Christian home, I would frequently get in trouble for listening to the radio past my assigned bedtime and tuning to the stations that played variety instead of the Christian-soft rock tunes that often dominated the airwaves in my childhood home. While my ma did her best to protect my youthful ears from what our local church deemed “The Devil’s Music”, she also would occasionally play her favorite 80s radio station and teach me the choruses to sing along to in the car. Those rare moments with my mother were also mirrored by the occasions where my step-grandfather would play me his favorite 70s records while we rode around running errands in the middle of the countries parts of Kentucky. Those experiences led me to a point of musical desire where I wanted to form my own band when I was just 12 years old. However, since my family couldn’t afford any instruments, I turned to writing poetry as a creative outlet until I reached high school.
Throughout high school and college, I began shifting a lot of the poetry I was writing into song lyrics. While my early songs were often super wordy, I was determined to create and kept at it through the years. My consistency with music became so strong in college I was actually encouraged to drop out by my mentor at the time due to the amount of sessions and shows I was being booked for. That mentor’s encouragement became the catalyst that led to me diving head-first into true musicianship at the tender age of 20 years old.
Fast forward another seven years, tons of shows, studio sessions and songs written later, and I was able to make it out to Los Angeles to fully pursue my artistic ambitions with the support of my friends, family and the local community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but that is what makes it so worthwhile! I would not have learned a fraction of what I know now if it was not for the various tribulations and trials I’ve faced through the years. Most of the problems I’ve encountered have resulted from my own, and others, inability to separate business and personal matters. I recently learned that, despite how trite it sounds, every person is going to ultimately operate out of their own self-interest and that respecting another person’s decision to leave a business situation also includes respecting their decision to return to the table, knowing now that they are more readily choosing to be present and aligned with whatever that business situation may be.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Rap and Disco artist who is creating the soundtrack to a brighter future. If you want to feel uplifted, seen and validated, my music is definitely for you, especially if you’re into Black Alternative music in any capacity. My specialties include vocal production, songwriting and the exuberant energy I bring with me to every room I step foot in and every camera I step in front of. I’m most proud of my visual growth over the years. My earlier music videos were largely experimental for me and I feel much more confident in our visual presentation these last two years than ever before! As for what sets me apart, I believe it is my overflowing belief in myself and my peers and my positive attitude. Additionally, I am a studio engineer of 10 years and excel at recording and mixing. I typically prefer to work with people whose music I enjoy, but I am all about fostering peoples’ creativity and helping them reach the sound they want to create.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m really looking forward to unveiling more music videos, creative content and the extra-incredible new music I’ve been making lately. Looking ahead, I see tours, merchandise and a full-length album in the works. We’re also still building my music team, especially on the visual/digital side of things, so expect leaps and bounds more progress in my content and visuals!
