Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryann Lanel Redman.
Hi Ryann Lanel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Los Angeles from Sacramento about 10 years ago to attend FIDM and get my foot in the fashion door. My first week in LA I got an internship with a celebrity wardrobe stylist and about a year later became her assistant and then went on to assist another celebrity stylist full time and work with as many others as possible to gain as much experience as I could. Over the last five years I’d say, I started branching out on my own and gaining my own celebrity clients to style. I now have the best clients a person could ask for and I get to live out my dream job every day and style them for photo shoots, red carpets and events, movies, and music videos.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been the smoothest ride, but I think anything creative in the industry is hard to maintain a steady relationship with. There are so many talented and amazing people in this industry that sometimes it’s a struggle to find clients and keep a consistent flow of jobs with. The unknown factor of if you’ll have a job every day for three months straight or if you’ll go a week or a month without work and being paid is really hard to come to terms with sometimes. Ultimately the struggles and the rocky road force you to work harder and push yourself, and I’m grateful for that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in and am most known for Fashion/Wardrobe celebrity styling. I’m most proud of taking a risk and following my dreams of working in fashion and not heaving a steady or conventional job and being successful in it regardless of the obstacles.
I’ve worked really hard to put myself out there and find clients that want to work with me, that I love working with and at the end of the day collaborating to make something special happen. The ultimate goal is to make my client happy and to have fun with fashion and I think we always end up doing that.
What sets me apart from others is just my absolute adoration for my job. I am always so happy and feel so blessed to be able to work with clothes and accessories for a living and make visions come to life with my clients. As hard as it is sometimes with quick turnarounds, unexpected fashion emergencies, and other roadblocks, I am always excited about my job.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is truly just my job in general and making other people feel happy in what they’re wearing and how they’re presenting themselves. I get such great joy out of a red carpet-picture after weeks of hard work that goes into making that outfit come together. Or when photo shoot finally gets released and I get to see dozens of outfits published all at once. It’s such a great feeling seeing all the handwork I’ve put in, along with the rest of the team, come to fruition. I geek out about fashion quite literally every day because it makes me that happy.
