Today we’d like to introduce you to Shay Dempsey.
Hi Shay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career training in Dublin, Ireland, then going to London to finish training there. I went on to open five hair salons in Ireland, while simultaneously working as the global artistic director for Sebastian professional, which has been my role with them for over fifteen years now. I think I got to where I am today by constantly pushing boundaries and doing my best to inspire other artists around me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s an extremely tough career starting off, constantly on your feet, working weekends, but ultimately so rewarding.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In January of this year, my daughter Abbie and I opened a creative studio space and boutique private salon in Culver City’s Art District. We wanted to create a space not only to take our clients, but facilitate our shoots, host events, and bring the community together.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I would absolutely view myself as a risk-taker. Life is all about risks, especially in this industry and the world we live in today. If you never take the risk, you will never reap the benefits. I encourage all young creatives to take risks, try different things, and see what lands.
