Meet Yu Woung Go of Rejuvenate Acupuncture Center in Newport Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yu Woung Go.

Yu Woung, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I started our clinic in 2012 in San Diego, CA. It was a hard in the beginning just like any other business out there. It is especially hard for us because we have no financial backing like most of the acupuncturist out there. Also, in our field of medical practice, people always seeking for experience (older practitioners). Being as young as we are, it is hard for people to trust us. With dedication, respect to all patients, and honesty, our patients start to trust us and as some of them don’t seek any other medical advice without consulting with us first. It is a great accomplishment!

How I started in this field was a destiny I guess. Being a traditional Korean woman in the Korean society has not much room for advancement in the working environment. It is mostly male dominate society back in the days. I worked for 3 to 4 years right after my college in a graphic design firm. With no chance of advancement available, an opportunity opened up for me to go to China and study TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). I took the opportunity in order to write my own destiny. Talk about destiny, I met my husband there while we met on the first day of school (for him, he was one week late due to visa issues). After our graduation in 2007, we moved back to the States in 2008 (he is from the US).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a pretty tough road since day one. After we moved back in 2008, I had to get my license in order to practice here. That was a huge challenge for me! I had to take the Acupuncture Board exam three times. There are three languages you can choose to take the exam with which includes Korean, Chinese, and English. The first time I took it in Chinese because I studied in China. For some of you might know, the Chinese characters they use in China is simplified, but the exam is in traditional Chinese characters! I had to guess at least half of the test because I don’t recognize the characters. The second time I thought I would take it in Korean. I was wrong again! The translations of the Korean test have a total different explanation and meaning in regular Chinese test. I failed again! The third time around, I thought to myself, “I am putting too much pressure on myself, I am just going to relax and let it come to me”. I guess the US saying is correct, “third time is a charm”. I passed!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rejuvenate Acupuncture Center – what should we know?
We were formally Go Acupuncture. We changed our name of the company to Rejuvenate Acupuncture Center. We specialize in cosmetic acupuncture, pain management, sports injuries, weight loss, etc.

We are most proud of our company is that we treat all our patients as our own family. It makes all the patients feel they are right at the comfort of their own home.

We take our time to explain to all the patients what is going on with their body and answer whatever questions they might have. Making our patients feel comfortable and trust us is our foremost priority. Also, we set up our clinic to make our patients feel they are at the spa instead of being in a clinic at all.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We treat all our patients with sincerity, honesty, and patience. We treat all our patients like they are our own family. We treat them just like how we would like to be treated if we were the patients. We are very open with any criticisms or suggestions from patients or their family members.
