Daily Inspiration: Meet Bima Wirayudha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bima Wirayudha.

Hi Bima, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
First of all, I’ve never been to America until I continue my Study in America. It was a huge experience to me to understand the culture of America. Being in a city where music is not a big thing back when I was still in Indonesia, and now I’m in a country where the music grows, it inspired me challenge myself in exploring the industry of music in America. It was really hard for me to start a new chapter in America. It was not an easy decision to leave my family and going to America chase my dreams. Sometimes I got terrified for not finding a friend in America, Imagine an Indonesian dude that don’t have a family or a friend in America and now I have to figure myself out on how to deal with it. I felt making a friend is an important component so I started to make some friends and started a band called HeadFirst. The band called Headfirst was started in 2020, It was originally formed by Siraj Husainy and Andru Wilson. Well as time goes by, several members started to join such as Coby Conrad, Shawn Gaskill and also including me myself. Being in a band was like a big dream for me especially you’re a band in America.

I started that dream when was a very little kid when my mom bought me some live show CDs called Avenged Sevenfold live in LBC. From that moment it motivated me to learn and work as hard as I can. And now I have my band, and I always have this goal to be one of the best drummers. I want people to recognize me by the way express my music, style and spirit. And also make more connections to a lot of people. Because if you have talent and you can’t make connections it would be a waste. Which at the end I have to figure it out several stuff, If things didn’t work at all. That’s why I had a several plans if things didn’t work out, maybe doing business, or start making a youtube and etc. But, being a huge rockstar band was one of my main goals and it won’t be an easy task. I felt like most of my bandmates are driven by passion which then it inspired us to express our story through music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s been a lot of struggle in dealing with the environment. Culture shock was one of them, sometimes I have to force myself to be more open-minded, which is good. I felt like being very respectful and humble played a huge role in this part of my struggles. And I am glad I didn’t find myself hard in making a new friends. Well, sometimes people are being very picky which I don’t really understand why. There is just several typical of people that if you want to be friends, you gotta show something. Which the way I show it is by showing my talent if I had the chance. And sometimes being in a band could be hard, especially the egos of the musician in my band. We somehow manage to deal with it. It’s a very unique experience for me to see these egos coming from a band. I felt like these kinds of ego makes us stronger because it forces us to understand each other and try to solve the problem by finding a solution that makes each of the parties are comfortable with the decision.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a musician, I play drums, right now I have a band called HeadFirst. It’s a punk rock band. I felt like I proud of myself when people start. to appreciate me as a drummer. I felt like I started to be part of the industry itself. Most people said to me that every time I play the drums I always give a huge energy in the place, a person that always gives a very positive energy to everyone that was watching me play a drum especially playing in a band. I was so happy when I got that compliment. I just love to spread a positive energy to everyone that are watching me playing drums.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I felt like there will be a moment where each of us going struggle in life, either it’s a career, relationship and etc. But, if we were driven with patient and doing our best to survive this world, working hard, we will receive a far greater gifts. I felt like in the moment where we’re going to have a hard time, try to enjoy it and also try to figure the next steps of our life. Another thing that is important to me as a musician is to be ready to receive a feedback from anyone. It’s good for us to improve the quality of our work. And the more you received the feedback, the more knowledge that you will receive.
